Rwolf Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) Is DCS:BS supposed to work in XP/64? I've just tried installing DCS:BS in XP/64, and it installed, but I cannot launch it, despite using XP compatibility mode, I get an exception (with ms crash report tool coming up). I get the 1st window titled SdlApp -> BlackShark and then the popup saying (in short): Launcher.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. (send error report to microsoft) During install, the DirectX supplied failed to install (being the 32 bit version) but I have updated to the latest (march-09) runtime with DXwebupdate. (ps. I have the DCS:BS english retail version 1.0, if it matters) Edited May 23, 2009 by Rwolf
ZaltysZ Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Works well on Windows Server 2003 x64 without any compatibility mode, so it should work on XP x64 too. Check drivers. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
Rwolf Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 yep, that is almost the same o/s...ty, I'll dig deeper.
Distiler Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Perhaps you need to launch it in administrator session. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Rwolf Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) Found the culprit; ATI catalyst AI needs to be disabled, then the launcher works. (seems the Cat9.1 AI was a problem for other users of DCS:BS) I'm using Cat9.3, as I have an AGP X1950pro gfx, non-dx10 capable. (And I was administrator already, but ty for the suggestion Distiller) edit: I found it's enough to set Catalyst AI to 'normal' and keep it on, if one wants to. Still the cat9.x drivers have the 'white menu' problem; no known workaround but rolling back to cat8.x drivers What I first thought was some fancy designer menu with only icons and no text, was actually a known bug. (the menu is still useful, and that is all the effect I have seen so far from cat9.x) Same issue as before using catalyst 10.2 and DCS:BS game update 1.0.1c (english) and 1.0.2 Setting Catalyst AI to 'standard' lets the launcher run, but it still has a *white* screen instead of the normal menu background. (one can learn the icons meaning by trial & error, or looking in the manual) edit: the buggy white menu only appears in single play, for multi-play the menu is normal with a helicopter picture and text for the buttons. Paulowanclift Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) I get this same error in XP64 Pro with nvidia, bleh! edit : The error log in event viewer told me all I need to know, install sound drivers, doh! Edited November 8, 2009 by Paulowanclift
Wolf Rider Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) I found a similar story with a new Windows7 (x64) installation... multiplayer fired up ok and allowed me to Activate whilst Single Player would not fire at all after installing the soundcard and drivers... all was good in the world :smartass: oh... I run with an nVidia 285 there seems to be a really good response soundwise, running 64 bit Edited November 8, 2009 by Wolf Rider City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing."
