JG14_Smil Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I found some great 7-segment displays that will fit the PVI-800 perfectly. They are Red single numeral with a decimal on each side (can supply part#). Does anyone know if they ccould be mounted upside down, with wires reversed so that the decimals would act as the minute and second indicators for the lat/long(?). Thought I would ask here. thanks smil
Rwolf Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) If it does not contain an integrated BCD decoder it should work fine, usually each segment can be accessed individually. http://www.thelearningpit.com/lp/doc/7seg/7seg.html What's the part no? Edited May 27, 2009 by Rwolf
JG14_Smil Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) thanks and thanks for that link!. was hoping it was just a matter of switching wires around. part # is SDA-72 http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/SDA-72/7-SEGMENT-DISPLAY-CA-LH-DECIMAL/1.html I really wish those 14.2mm green displays were red! Rwolf Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Yes that is a simple one, good for this kind of use as all diodes are accessible; just rewire it as needed with your decoder. btw, there are green ones too (and orange & yellow). http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/fairchild/MAN72A.pdf
PanelBuilder Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Absolutley you can. I don't think I'd want to go with single digit displays for this application though. Three digit multiplexed is probably what you want.
JG14_Smil Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 thanks Colin, will try to find some of proper size and color. Looking forward to seeing a vid of your setup.
