Reflected Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 I need some help please. Sometimes - but only sometimes - as I progress with a mission, the image of my Quest 2 starts fading out and getting more and more pixelated, like some big artifacts. If I switch to external view then back, it goes back to normal for about a minute then starts again. Sometimes this problem doesn't happen at all. I use Quest 2 with the link Cable and OTT. Please spare me the 'try VD' comments, I have a bad wifi connection. Any tips on how to solve it? Thanks Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord

What does the DCS fps/frametime chart look like? Is there any change in GPU usage as it happens? Are you seeing it in all missions or just some? Not sure if this will help but try resetting distortion curvature to default. You could also reduce the encode resolution as I don't think you need it that high for a Q2. You could disable the encode bitrate and set it manually. I have mine at 960 on the QP. It might although be worth checking your link cable to see if there are any issues with this. You can check this via the desktop app. Unrelated but have you tried setting sharpening to "quality" in Oculus Debug Tool? I find the normal sharpening a bit too harsh. 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). All OTT does is edit the same files as ODT does. It's just a bit more user friendly and has other options. You can use both at the same time. I do. Thinking about this a bit more it does sound like your bitrate is variable for some reason. Try setting the bitrate to about 150 in OTT and see if it still happens. Also check your cable still has a decent bitrate. I had done issues with a cable which started to go bad. Reflected Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Is there any other way to test the cable than in the oculus app? I'm getting a green result. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord

Maddaawg Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 That's probably the normal speed for Q2 on USB 3.1 What are your system specs and DCS settings. Did this just start or been doing it for a while? I've been having similar issues with Q3 and did switch to VD but then started happening on maps such as Syria and Afghanistan but not others. I saved my settings and then did a VR preset, worked much better. My system is just old and can't keep up. As I add more things back the issues start again. Reflected Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 (edited) OK it's driving me crazy. Apparently when the game freezes for a bit because of the GPU usage, sometimes the link connection gets degraded, and that's when it starts to happen. I could decrease the frequency of it happening by dumbing down my graphic settings, but still. DCS is silky smooth in VR already, but if a stutter/spike happens, it becomes a 240p youtube video. Meta is completely unable and unwilling to help. I'll never purchase a product from them ever again. their customer service is a disaster. I guess the VRAM leaks in DCS don't help either... Reflected Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 I give up. I'm buying a new headset. Meta can go f themselves. This is totally unplayable like this. 1 Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Tomcat388th Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Here are the settings when I used my quest 2. Oculus tray tool always gave me fits and would get corrupted and loose it settings. Another thing that comes to mind is when this starts happening is the headset getting low on battery power? I have a powered aftermarket link cable that charges while you play and rarely does my headset get below 80% Ryzen7 5800X3D. 64 gb ram, 6950XT 16gb, Winwing Orion F18, MFG Crosswind Rudder, 42 inch lg tv, Quest PRO USN VF31 F14A AE2 1985-1989 CV 59 NAS Oceana IL ANG 183FW/170FS F16C Block 30 Big Mouth 1989-2006 Full time tech Retired E8
Reflected Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 (edited) Thanks! Should I not use OTT then? The headset has plenty of battery power left. Why did you set PD in both your Oculus app and debug tool? And different ones at that? Edited January 16 by Reflected Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Tomcat388th Posted January 16 Posted January 16 If OTT has been working and not giving you any problems no need to change. There was something with my system that just trashed it I would have to reinstall the program from time to time. As for the different PD settings that was something that had been posted here on DCS a long time ago when I first got my quest 2 and I was happy with the results but you could probably just set the oculus to 1.0 and bump up the traytool PD a bit and get the same effect. I run a quest pro now I bounce back and forth between link cable and Virtual desktop just to compare the two. FupDuck Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but when I used to play with my Quest 2, I had artifacts that showed up as a bar of sort of faded pink pixels at the bottom third or so of the screen. At the time, I traced it to a mix of Steam VR and virtual desktop, and noticed the same artifacts in other VR games. It didn't happen, at least as far as I remember, using a USB cable to connect. I would also mention that since I switched to a Quest Pro, I have not seen this artifacting anymore. If you're still using a Quest 2, I would strongly recommend upgrading to a newer headset with pancake lenses anyways. For me, the difference in visual quality, clarity and enjoyment in going from the Quest 2 to the Pro was similar to when I upgraded from a 1080 to a 3090. In case it's helpful, here's all my settings. I get 80 fps solid with this.
