Eaglevapour Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Hi im using 2.9.8.1214 version of DCS and am unable to configure my Cougar F-16 MFD, the column is greyed out in the configeration. Is there a fix to this problem please. Thanks
Yurgon Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I use two of those MFD frames and they keep working fine here. I'd suggest you a) run a DCS repair b) rename your entire folder Saved Games\DCS and try with a bare minimum config Does either of these steps solve the issue? 1
Eaglevapour Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 Hi thanks for your reply, doing a repair didnt fix it unfortunately. As for part B in the steps, just to confirm rename the Saved Games folder DCS ? Many Thanks

Make sure DCS isn't running when renaming this folder. The standard path is: C:\Users\{Your Username}\Saved Games\DCS You can rename this "DCS" folder to "DCS.backup" or so. In case you ran the OpenBeta, the folder would be called "DCS.openbeta" and you can rename it in an analog fashion. Depending on the outcome of the test, stop DCS, delete the new "DCS" folder that was automatically created, and rename your "DCS.backup" back to "DCS". Not sure what your screenshot should show; it's tiny and I can't make head or tail of it, other than that it's the DCS control assignment screen. 1

As for part B in the steps, just to confirm rename the Saved Games folder DCS ? Many Thanks Windows comes with a free screenshot tool, so your cellphone is not needed. Think it's called Snip & Sketch, shortcut is LWin + LShft + S. Then you can just copy it into the post here. Click the "paste as plain text" message that comes up below the post you're editing. Then just click the thumbnail at the bottom to get it into the post.Cheers! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk 1

The problem is that the A-10C module comes with a pre-defined bind template specifically for the MFDs, and this template blocks out all other bind capabilities. No other functions are available to be bound and the UI reflects this by greying out binds that do not specifically match the button config. A “left” Cougar MFD can only ever be bound to left-MFD fuctions. A “right” Cougar MFD can only ever be bound to right-MFD functions. No other binds are available because the module hasn't defined them for these input devices. If, like many do after the Hornet and Mudhen came out, run with triple or quad MFDs, the A-10C module still only sees those as 2x Left MFD and 2x Right MFD, and all those extra buttons can't be used. This can be bodged by hard-modding the module and adding all other binds to the templates, but of course, this gets wiped by every update and require a mod manager to maintain (not to mention that if you're not careful, your “incorrect” binds will be wiped as well). This is a long-standing error in how the module has been made to match specific input hardware, but done in a uselessly restrictive way so that you are not allowed to use that special-supported hardware in any other way than what the module programmers imagined. It is actually pretty trivial to fix — just about every other module that detects and default-binds the MFDs can handle it just fine so it's already a solved problem. ED just needs to do it for the A-10C as well. 2 ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. One cannot land; the other shoots friendlies. You are a Goon. ❧ ❧

These are the files needed for the A-10C, cleaned up and modded to include all the relevant inputs (so no axes and no FFB): A-10C_MFDs.zip …and these are the same files for the A-10C II: A-10C_2_MFDs.zip They just need to replace the existing ones in the modules' input/joystick directories, and will retain the same default binds while opening up all other controls to be bound as well. 1 ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. The A-10C has been feature complete for 10+ years, so this just isn't a matter of priority, or at least I assume it isn't. Plus, testing and documenting the change probably takes more time than implementing it. Anyway, I'll link your post in the report and let the devs decide which path they'll choose. 1
