Omega Oska Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I am making a diagram which contains scale drawing of different jets side by side, so you can immediately compare their sizes, it can also be used as an aircraft recognition manual to a certain extent. I think it is very important to have a sense about the enemies's sizes when in a dogfight, it can, to some extent, tells you how much fuel it can carry, what's the optimum gun range etc.. So back to the point, does anyone know a good web source of such drawings? I don't need the site to have the exact dimensions provided, I can find these data elsewhere and rescale the pictures.
Kula66 Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I guess http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-15.htm is a good source ... they have most current a/c ... James
Omega Oska Posted March 26, 2005 Author Posted March 26, 2005 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/OmegaOska/Chart1.jpg What do you guys think about this? I am going to include more planes. I put the Su-27 and Su-33 at the first place because they have the same size, and are the planes that I fly most, so that I can easily compare its relative size. But my problem now is how should I group them? Maybe US, Russian and europe, each on one sheet. Then subdivide them into fighters, assault planes, AWACS, transport etc...? I want to do this, but my knowledge on their properties is very limited. My sources are from this site http://www.airwar.ru/other/drawe.html
KILSEK Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Hi all. edited: But my problem now is how should I group them? If you're asking, I say by country, then by catagory, then by size. I would like to have a chart like that. -KILSEK
Omega Oska Posted March 27, 2005 Author Posted March 27, 2005 Do the lenght that I found on the web include the atenna length? e.g. Su-27, Length=21.94m

Maybe I can help you. I've got some drawings on HDD, some of them very detailed. If you need something concrete, mail me at anatolij@gamap.cz
Skywall23 Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Talking about big aircraft...the 27 is a monster. :O But good job Omega, well done.
kdittyr Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 You should go here: http://www.suurland.com/ You will have to click on the blueprints link on the right, I don't believe that I can hotlink you to it. They have diagrams of all sorts of vehicles including military aircraft. Please let me know if this fills your need, if not I will look for more. __________________ kdittyr
zokier Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 my effort i did almost the same a while ago, not specially for lockon, and its not very accurate, but i needed some comparsion to understand the planes. heres my version, it lacks the annotations, but that just adds challange :) (msg me if you dont recognize a plane....) : http://zokier.ydin.org/2med.png fas.org used as source, one of my favorite sites. :)
Omega Oska Posted March 27, 2005 Author Posted March 27, 2005 Thanks for all the info guys. Right now I am searching for reliable information on their length. Like I asked before, I am not sure how they measure the length. Like in the F-16, its tail fin extends a little bit beyond the nozzle, I am not sure if the length include that part. And most of them have an antenna extended on their radar, I don't know if they are counted.

NI think maybe it's not a good idea to actually place the lowest point of every plane on the same line. Take the Su-27 as an example, although it's long, but actually some of the length comes from the tail cone, but when you are fighting it, what matters is (I think) the size counting from the engine nozzle. So to make a practical comparison, maybe we should place them together with a suitable offset. (my poor English, hope you understand)

(my poor English, hope you understand) actually answer to both of your questions is my lazyness...those images are just stolen from fas.org, and i was too lazy to put those in somekind of sensible way. i didnt actually think that i would share this to anyone, but when i saw this thread i just had to post it. so please do a better one, maybe some helicopters included...... ;) and back to the topic: i found actually one great site which contains lots of detailed linedrawings of planes: http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw_fn.html (actually stolen from the 3d-model-thread.) and your english is quite good, no problems understanding.
