How to make a vehicle wait for me until I hit a trigger zone?

I'm making a mission where I have a follow me vehicle which I want to wait until I get just behind it then start it's journey. I don't want it to spawn in front of me, it must be visible waiting for me. Any ideas?

Depending what it is, you may be able to make it uncontrolled or else set it in the Advanced Waypoint Actions as HOLD with a trigger to stop that condition in that WP action for when you're as close as you want.  Note that you want that trigger in the actual advanced waypoint, not as a regular trigger (or set a flag in the regular triggers and use it in the advanced waypoints STOP CONDITION).

Make a trigger zone & place it on the vehicle you want to start with a radius of however far away you want to be when it starts up

Set the vehicle to late start (visible before start), then

In the triggers section make a trigger once, condition: unit in zone (zone = start zone, unit = you), Action: activate group, group to activate = the vehicle's group)

A moving zone is the key, as @Weta43 suggested, as a variant I can suggest using two concentric zones, so that the vehicle begins moving when you are close to it, but stops if you fall behind too much.

Only three triggers are needed, the first is to stop the vehicle (by turning its AI off)

This one starts the vehicle when the aircraft is close:

The Flag is used to make the switched condition work.

The final trigger, stops the vehicle when it gets too far:

When running DCS it looks like this:
