I need a bit of help please can someone explain what the collective is and the cyclic and and which controls on the joystick are used for them.

Also is it best to allocate the controls on my saitek 45 through the game or progamme it throughthe x45 software or would the game benifit from a new joystick incidentally what is the make and type of joystick shown in the guide?

thanks

the collective makes the heli go up and down and the cyclic is th estick - bit like in a plane...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Presumably you're referring to the PDF manual that comes with the game? If so, that's the stick in the actual Ka-50 helicopter. Not available for consumer market, I'm afraid.

The Collective increases and decreases the angle of attack of the rotor blades, causing them to create more or less lift / torque.

The Cyclic changes the angle of the rotor hub, which has the effect of tilting the rotor blades which causes roll or pitch.

Map the collective Axis to your X45's throttle

Map the Cyclic Axis (plural) to your X45 Joystick X and Y

Map the rudder Axis to your stick's twist (Z) axis (unless you have rudder pedals of course!)

Use the button assignment in game rather than using a saitek profile for simplicity...it is much more intuitive IMHO.

I think the X45 will be fine to play Blackshark with, no need for a new joystick!

Good luck! .. and be aware that there are 2 seperate contrl assignments...1 for "Game" mode, and 1 for "Real" mode .. these are completely seperate, so make sure you set up the controls in the correct one for which you are going to play!

hello,

when you set your collective axis, you can see a way to edit the axis. Some use the collective axis inverted: you pull back the control to increase as in a real helocopter.

You will also see a curve adjustment. The curvature will affect where your 'sweetspot' is, that is where your collective position will be when you get best control of the helo's lift. Editing the curvature can also help spread the sweet spot out a bit, making it easier to fly the helo.

While a negative number is usually used in curvature settings for the pitch, roll and yaw axis, a positive number curvature is needed when the collective axis is inverted. Selective the 'slider' option and a positive curvature will spread the collective range out and make altitude controls easier (after you get used to the change).

for example, if you find the helo taking off as soon as you pull back on the collective, raising the curvature to a positive number will delay the helo taking off and make it happen more slowly when it does take off.

He might mean the stick on page 36 of the Quick-Start. If so, that is a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force. Pretty cheap stick and very good for people that are left-handed or have otherwise non-standard hands (very large, very small). I use that stick (small hands) and really like it, but it suffers a bit from an imprecise throttle (for the collective in this sim) and problems in the Force Feedback.

But it's cheap and overall a pretty good buy if one doesn't want to spend massive amounts of cash on a HOTAS setup.
