mbolan Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 1) The HUD is awful hard to see against blue sky. Is there a way to change the HUD colour to black or similar? 2) Throttle settings affect the amount of collective needed to get a particular amount of lift. The lower the setting, the more collective needed for the same amount of lift (or so it seems). Does this mean that when doing close maneuvering, such as landing on ships, it's useful to shift from the 2 stops up (PAGE UP x 2) to 1 stop up (PAGE UP x 1) to give more precise control? All help greatly appreciated.
Timm Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 (edited) Hi Bud, I use the night settings on the HUD, this one gives a nice balance during day light, as you can see from my shot it goes well against ground and air. But there are some other colors over at Lockon website. you need to be registered to get these. To the answer on your second question I will pass on that one. ZaltysZ Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 To change HUD color, you need to edit lua files. ..\Ka-50\Scripts\Aircrafts\Ka-50\Cockpit\HUD\HUD_init.lua indication_color = get_color(materials["BLACK"]) You can use other colors too or define your own in file ..\Ka-50\Scripts\Aircrafts\Ka-50\Cockpit\materials.lua Lift is effected by collective (AoA of blades) and rotor RPM. Higher collective setting makes engines work harder to keep the same rotor RPM. There is upper limit of collective position with which engines can't spin rotors at required RPM and lift decreases drastically. High throttle setting increases this upper limit and allows usage of higher collective setting without slowing the rotors. In other words throttle setting does not have direct relation to lift, however high throttle allows higher collective without falling out of sky. Note, that you should fly at AUTO position and FULL POWER should be used only at emergency. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
159th_Viper Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 1) The HUD is awful hard to see against blue sky. Is there a way to change the HUD colour to black or similar? Navigate to your KA-50/Scripts/Aircraft/Ka-50/Cockpit/HUD Folder and open it. Find the HUD_init.lua file, open it and scroll to line 72 (editing with Notepad++). That is the line that you need to edit with an entry to get the colour of your choice. Now - In order to get/choose that colour: Navigate to your KA-50/Scripts/Aircraft/Ka-50/Cockpit Folder and open. Find the materials.lua file and open with Notepad++. Lines 6-39 lists all the available 'default' colours. Choose and edit as above. 2) Throttle settings affect the amount of collective needed to get a particular amount of lift. No. Best advised to leave the Throttle well-enough alone and use Fine collective adjustments for more precise control. Timm Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Hi Guys, It's great that when replying to someones help you get info that helps you (as the replier) as well. What I'm trying to say is. I always used the HUD mod color "Mint green" now just recently I have re-done my own cockpit mod and for some reason this add on just did not work. Now using the info given by 159th_Viper and ZaltysZ I have opened up the mod version HUD color taken (copied) the line using notepad ++ and over written a colour which I don't use and hey presto I am now getting the "mint green" effect back. Thanks alot guys you have help me out as well. Timm “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. It comes to us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. All help greatly appreciated. The throttle tries to maintain a constant rotor RPM as rotor pitch/load varies. The target RPM is determined by the Low/Nominal switch on the collective (I never touch it). Auto throttle is where you should be 99% of the time. If you loose an engine, select High. If you want an amazing decent rate, bottom the collective and select Low. In any case, the throttle setting will affect performance, not maneuverability.
