Spirale Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Hi, During my last flight, the RWR sees the Roland "R". The Roland has fired a missile toward me , Jester has warned me for this lauch BUT...the RWR has stayed silent: no tone, no flashing lights... I have no problem with the other sam systems Thx for your replies
Solution Esac_mirmidon Posted October 27, 2024 Solution Posted October 27, 2024 (edited) The Roland has both optical and radar guiding systems, that can be changed to intercept at will. So you are experimenting normal operational use of that SAM. Radar to detect you, optical guiding to intercept you. Edited October 28, 2024 by Esac_mirmidon 2 1 " You must think in russian.." Spirale Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 Thx Mirmidon but is ED simulating both radar and optical guiding system? I wonder
Zabuzard Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Thx Mirmidon but is ED simulating both radar and optical guiding system? I wonderYes.Also note that for some SAM systems the presence of the symbol on your display already means a missile is coming your way. This is especially the case for systems that have separate search and tracking radar emitters. You have to interprete the symbology and indications depending on how the target system works. The manual will in the future have a detailed list of each common platform and how the various stages are indicated on your RWR.
Spirale Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 (edited) Hi Zabuzard, so if it is the case, why i have the launch alert with other aircraft: Harrier, Viggen for example? This doesn't explain why the guidance is an optical one against the F4 (no launch alert) and radar guidance against the other aircrafts ... Edited October 27, 2024 by Spirale
Esac_mirmidon Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 (edited) Because the RWR for the Phantom is an early device with limited capabilities, one of them is no launch warning tones for most of the mid-late SAM systems. Other planes have more advance RWR devices capable of reading and warning about both emissions and launches Edited October 27, 2024 by Esac_mirmidon 1 1 " You must think in russian.." Zabuzard Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 (edited) I just checked it ingame. The presence of the R symbol already indicates you are being tracked and under attack. Shortly after you see the R appear, a missile will come your way. If you want to detect its search-radar, hit the SEARCH mode. You will then see the vehicle used for searching targets appear on your screen before you are being locked: Dont forget that you can also click the HANDOFF mode in order to hear the high pitched tone as soon as the R appears, then its hard to miss that you are under attack Edited October 28, 2024 by Zabuzard 5
