BaronVonVaderham Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Hey Gus, I’m looking for a new monitor. Preferably a 41-43 ish inch 4K monitor. I’m using it for DCS and work (engineering stuff, lots of documents drawings excel sheets, schematics, etc). I’m eyeballing the Phillips 42m2n8900 and the asus pg43uq (or whatever the model number is off the latest version). I’m of course open to other suggestions, but not ultra wide stuff. I’m not convinced about using a TV because they lack usb-c, and they don’t work in the same way Monitors do. 1
SharpeXB Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I’m using this for gaming and similar CAD and drawing work. It’s fantastic! Every so often it goes on sale for half this price. https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-48gq900-b-gaming-monitor i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5

Is this a monitor or a TV? I’ve heard about people using the C4, but alas no DP I believe.

I have it at the far side of a desk against the wall and not right up close. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
LucShep Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 (edited) All of the 42'' OLEDs in the market are as flagships and outstandingly good, some slightly more than others (and not all have USB-C) but you can buy any with confidence. That is, provided that you're already aware of risk of burn-in in the long-term with prolongued heavy usage of static images (but mitigations and routines to avoid it exhist). All have continuous support with own Firmware releases that keep slightly improving things. As for the lack of DisplayPort 1.4 on those labelled as TVs, it's not a problem at all in practice when using them as a PC monitor, though you must have a good quality HDMI 2.1 cable (Zeskit, Maxonar, Stouchi, Audioquest, etc). 42” OLED 4K 120Hz (138Hz w/OC) --------------------------- ASUS PG42UQ - review: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/rog-swift-oled-pg42uq Philips 42M2N8900 - review: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/philips-evnia-42m2n89-review KTC G42P5 - review: https://www.guru3d.com/review/ktc-g42p5-oled-monitor-review/ 42” OLED 4K 120Hz --------------------------- LG OLED42C2 (TV, only HDMI, no DP) - review: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/42-c2-oled LG OLED42C3 (TV, only HDMI, no DP) - review: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c3-oled LG OLED42C4 (TV, only HDMI, no DP) - review: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/42-c4-oled 42” OLED 4K 120Hz Bendable (flat to 900R curve) ------------------------------------------- LG OLED Flex LX3 (TV, only HDMI, no DP) - review: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/oled-flex For more listed specifications of these (and other) PC monitors and TV's, you have good old DisplaySpecs website (https://www.displayspecifications.com). EightyDuce Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Using LG OLED C3 42" and love it. No DP but HDMI 2.1 is sufficient for 4K HDR at 120fps and is Gsync/FreeSync compatible. Can be had on sale fairly often. Grabbed mine for $650+tax. Also has a ton of color controls for calibration purposes, but looking at CALMAN, factory calibration on mine wasn't terrible. BaronVonVaderham Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 Thanks all.i decided to go for the Philips. Half of the choices are not available (either because it’s discontinued or simply not sold here), and for the rest the specs are all very similar, and so are the reviews. the one thing that was noted on the Philips by users is that it seems relative dim during daylight. That’s a non issue for me as during the day I play dad or work, and only fly in the evening. 1
