Chesster Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Hi, I've asked fellow sim aviators whether this problem extends beyond my set up. Seems I might be the only one experiencing it but so far no solution has come my way. I'm using a Quest 2 headset. During flight using the PNVS the projected image displays on the monocle of the PHMD when NVS is set to NORM. But when I tilt my head, the image does not. Here is a video showing the issue: Flying at night without visual cues is not pleasurable task Is there just an option I'm missing to enable or is the issue something else ?
Chesster Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 Update: Turns out after I made the video that other do experience the same thing. That begs the question: Is it supposed to be this way ? Makes you feel sick flying at night with it
Nealius Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) While correct, this causes significant issues with night combat in VR as our headsets obscure our view of how are head is orientated relative to the real world, making it excessively difficult in determining if the image is tilted, which direction it is tilted, and by how much it is tilted. On numerous occasions I've tilted my head one way to fix the image, only to see it rotate opposite what my brain was telling me it should have been rotating. TrackIR users can simply turn off their roll axis. Even with the axis on, the amount of head movement required to see around the 3/9 line isn't significant to introduce any PNVS tilt anyway. In VR, however, the head can tilt quite excessively. In some cases (like me) my head has a natural tilt tendency even when looking straight ahead, which I am only able to notice and correct by visually referencing my PNVS box with the dashboard. Additionally, the headset fitment on an individual’s face may be tilted even when the head is upright due to uncontrollable reasons. Stabilized or not stabilized should be an option, as 2d users can easily cheat this by turning off their head tracking roll axis. Edited November 12, 2024 by Nealius
