Hi I just replayed the mission 8 after one year, and I think there is something weird about the AI bandits,
I tried and shot the STT locked F16 before and after merge, but still can't get the "kill" message so the engagement won't end. 
After the first try, I just tried it 5 more times, and only one of them I can get the kill message and moved on. (The other 4 I did see all kind of missiles explode head on or from the tail of the bandit, also gun shot)

Not sure if anyone also have this problem?

It's a training and they want you to practice dogfighting. So for a short time after the merge the kill's not counted.

I see, thanks, I‘ll try to kill the bandit slower after merge😅

I find the second run insanely difficult, i've must have tried some 28 times so far and no luck. Maybe it has to do with the current version and the behaviour of the AI ?

It seems it only starts counting as a kill for the player once you cross the enemy plane, going hot (i hope), after your Fox 3 launch and Fox 1 launch.

I will try to take it out with the cannon, nothing else seems to work. It outmaneuvres me easily, but maybe keeping one circles until i get a cannon shot in...

Ok i was watching this video, from February of 2023. At 44:00, you can clearly see, on the second run, the Viper bandit is just a letargic plane in the sky:

 

In todays version of the game, he's very agressive, firing missiles at every chance, maneuvering all the time and evading missiles with ease (only after the merge). Very different behaviour

I am also having a really hars time with the 2v2 2nd run and the 4v4 2nd run. While watching the above playthrough and lanky pilot's playthrough and seeing my own experience, I think missions vary sometimes greatly with the current DCS version and AI behavior. Nothing much Reflected (or any other mission builder) can do about that, but one should know that maybe a too strict plan on AI behavior and expected player behavior/reaction is greatly influenced by DCS and various changing parameters.

Although I like the campaign and the idea about it very much, some parts are very frustrating.
