It seems that unlike before I'm no longer able to zoom out as far as I remember I was able before. I noticed this when I was trying to create some in-game footage, and now (I do not know how long this has been in place, I did not check for at least two months). I can't zoom out the F7 and F2 as far as I was used to. This severely impedes my ability to create imagery for my missions, and I seem to be unable to find a work-around.

How can I zoom out further than what DCS allows now (which appears to be some 25 meters)?

Any hint appreciated.

Hi cfrag

I noticed the same thing using the / key to zoom out on vehicles.

If you press ctrl and / you can zoom out more but still limited

cheers

I saw this in the last big patch

  • Fixed: Set “F4” view camera usage distance restriction as for “F2” view camera.

I assumed that there was some sort of setting in the mission editor so multiplayer servers could restrict the view.

If these views are just restricted across the board with no settings for it, then I have no idea why that was implemented and it sucks.

Thank you so much for the hint - Rctrl-/ in my DCS changes FOV slowly to fish-eye lens, making the apparent size of the objects a bit smaller and distorts the view. But it gives a little more 'distance'.

It looks like that for simmy, ham-fisted I, and I would like hints on how I can increase the max zoom.

Well I've just been in a tested a single player mission I made earlier, and a new very simple mission, and the views were NOT restricted any more than usual.
Though it was definitely more limited while playing on a multiplayer server.

I can't find a setting to set a restricted view though, only the one sets External views YES/NO.

Thank you so much for taking the time to test this. Below is an image I just took, with the F7 camera maximally zoomed out from the infantry soldier.

I cant even get the entire platform into view

And here's the miz, very small, very simple:

Is that a single player mission?

I seem to have solved it by running the launcher, fiddling with some settings, saving and then restarting DCS without the launcher. The "F11 Free Camera" option seems to do the trick: when unchecked, it limits the camera's zoom on F2 and all the others as well. Strange.
