A question for the owners of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I installed mine last week and I use the Noctua NH-U12A as a cooler. With DCS the CPU gets very hot, up to 95 degrees. The Noctua cooler is also very hot.
I was able to control the temperatures somewhat with Ryzen Master.
What kind of CPU cooler do you use? Do you also have such high temperatures?

Corsair iCue Titan Liquid CPU cooler, logging while in DCS I have not seen past 75c, and that is with the CPU running all cores at 55x all the time.

I’m using a NH-D15 and haven’t seen it much over 65°C for DCS. I’d reapply thermal paste and make sure the fan is mounted properly.

As i've seen so many people putting it on like they are building a brick wall its not hard to use too little or waaaay too much TP. I use Noctua NT-H2, apply it with a stiff plastic spreader to cover every part of the CPU in contact with the transfer plate with a THIN even layer (after cleaning the CPU and heatsink with an alcohol solution). Set the heatsink down, little wiggling to evenly distribute the application even more and push out any air bubbles, lock her down. Putting a glob in the middle (as Intel recommends!) may cover, may not, may be the exact amount  to create the right thickness (Paper thin, only enough to fill in the imperfections in the two surfaces), or may not. Best way to KNOW, buy enough paste to do several applications, try one, remove cooler plate and look at it. Just my $0.02..

I also use NT-H2.
I probably applied too little paste. I also ordered this offset bracket for AM5 from Noctua. As soon as it arrives, I will reinstall the fan.
I am currently working with the Curve Optimizer -20, so the CPU has not gone above 80 degrees.

I have yet only built 7800x3d and 7600x3d as a systembuilder.

For my taste your cooler is 1-2 steps too small.

DH15 DH14 or better Dh15G2 if you prefer air coolers.

AIO I would Not consider any 240er, better 280, 360 0r 420

you also need proper case venting, dont forget.

anyway, 95C is too 🔥 for DCS.

test prime95 and See of it holds clocks and Safe Tempos, I assume it will Not pass the Test

Terrible autocorrection on mobile…sorry

I have now ordered the NH-D15 G2 LBC and a Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet pad and a stronger fan for the back.
Let's see if that improves the situation.
I will also remove the BlueRay burner and HDD removable frame and install a third fan for the front of the case. Because I have the feeling that the CPU fan is hardly getting any fresh air, since the RTX 4080 is blocking a lot of things in the case.

That should fix the CPU temp issue 👍

Now, I admit, it's embarrassing, but it seems that when the CPU cooler was dismantled, the NA-TGP1 template shifted. So much so that a small part was probably underneath the CPU.
I've installed the new cooler and it's much better, only goes up to 85 degrees for a short time.
I still have to install the third fan on the front, but I still need a bracket for it.
Otherwise, I'll change the case later so that the air can also be blown out upwards.I have now ordered the NH-D15 G2 LBC and a Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet pad and a stronger fan for the back.

Got 9800x3d (in combo with an "old" 4090), optimized it as much as I know (with no overclocking). And I get stutters here and there. Don't know what would be the reason for them. Anyone else have/had stutters? But I guess its up to DCS now.

Its not like stuttering, but game just like freezes for a second. Fps drop way bellow 100.

Optimized Windows? Which version? Are you talking about 2D (assumed, as you say you get over 100FPS) or VR? In my experience (same general specs) the biggest culprit is usually Windows bloat or Nvidia bloat. In 2D I get 180FPS steadily (~5ms avg FT) and in VR 90FPS steadily with ~10ms FT. Suggest if you like things simple and are not into trying 250 different settings like some people here, run AtlasOS on your new Win11 install (Win11 being another assumption) system and do a DDU (uninstall of your Nvidia drivers), then an NVCleanstall (Clean install with nothing but video drivers.. no telemetry, no GeForce Exp.) and then see where you are. All I did in BIOS was turn on Turbo, manually set my multiplier to 55x (after testing it out using Ryzen Master) and set my DDR5 6000 to run at full rate (MCLK at 3000, FCLK at 2000, UCLK at 3000). Of course running other programs while flying, Anti-Virus, etc. can mess you up also. If you run in OpenXR run XRFrameTools to see\log what is actually happening.

I have VR headset (Quest Pro) as well, but still didn't try it yet in VR. So far only on monitor. I also have steady 180 fps and 5-6ms FT. But here and there I have these dips as mentioned.

I have a clean Win11 (on new M.2 ssd) and new latest Nvidia drivers for 4090. What I did in BIOS is PBO undervolt it a bit (-20).

For example, I also do car sim racing, and game Le Mans Ultimate runs with no issues what so ever in VR and also in 2D.

I believe total elimination of micro-jerks/stuttering is impossible. Tweaks (with a very top-notch CPU) alleviate it but after weeks of that and reading/watching countless reports and videos it looks like DCS likes to spike one or more cores to 100% and that's where the problem appears to exist.

MSI Afterburner monitoring features causes the dips. I turned them all off, and dips are gone.

MSI Afterburner in conjunction with Riva Statistics Tuner Server is usually quite smooth, taking also other demanding games and simulations in comparison.

What does matter is the chip on your motherboard that is does query to your set extend, usally  ITE or Nuvoton, and then the other peripherals that may be queried and may cause the jerks if they don't like to be queried together in one app or multiple queries in multiple apps ( MSI, Asus tool or any Mainboard tool, just ANY tool that interfers in the query )

HWinfo for example prompts the user if it finds chips in your system that are known to cause issues if you query them in HWinfo "together" with the other chips. That, likely holds just as true for other query apps.

If you limit FPS for example, the best tool with the least interference is MSI Afterburner's Riva Statistics Tuner Server. Most if not any other app causes microstutter, and in the case of Nvidia App even cripples VMware services ( for many years now, mind that ! ). That has been discussed far and wide here before.

If monitoring in OpenXR apps, my vote goes to Fredermmotts's XRFrameTools app..
