is there a bug with F-16 refueling ? No return pre-contact message ?

I was trying F-16C refueling instant action, and I was twice in right position, and no boom contact, no fuel.

I paused and watched F2 view, the boom was just in front of the door.

- Door was opened. RDY light on.

- Got pre-contact clearance

BUT when I pushed radio button, I saw that the menu proposed "request pre-contact". I never got the message "return pre-contact'.

VERY FRUSTATING.

If you only get pre-contact clearance, you have to move into pre-contact position, and then declare ready contact. If you don't get cleared for contact, he will never connect the boom to you.

And you will also not get the "return pre-contact" message if you were never cleared for contact position.

Overall I think there is some misunderstanding going on here. Have you followed online tutorials? Do you perhaps have a short track at hand?

I followed the procedure. You ask for pre-contact, and get clearance for pre-contact. The tanker tells you then contact when the boom is in, then tells 'you're taking fuel'. Same as with the Hornet and the basket.

I managed to take fuel, a few seconds.

I experienced something else strange too in an attempt. I was told 'return pre-contact'. But the option 'request pre-contact' was not in the radio menu. So I had to ask 'cancel refuel' and than ask again for refuel.

IIRC (could be wrong, been a while since I did this in the Viper) but did you close and reopen the fuel door?  I think you need to do that to reset things in the Viper. Apparently I don't RC. 😉 Was the A-10 I was thinking of that you have to do a reset (which closing/opening the door will do)

There is no need to cycle anything in the F-16.

If you were cleared for contact, took fuel and then disconnected, despite the tanker saying "return pre contact", you don't actually have to call or say anything. If you simply go back into contact position, the tanker should connect to you again automatically.

Have you considered VoiceAttack with the VAICOM plugin? No need to press buttons. Just request rejoin and pre-contact with speech.
Cheers!

Yes I have. I gave a try. But I'm French. I had a french windows. Had to install and English windows. I have a french version of DCS (well, texts in french, audio in english, obviously). I'm almost fluent in english but VoiceAttack seems to have difficulties to understand me.

20 years ago, I used a very good software named 'Game commander' with Falcon 4.0 and had no problem with my english.

When I have some time to invest, I'll try harder VoiceAttack.

Game Commander? Was that a hardware speech recognition card by chance?
VoiceAttack doesn't do any recognition by itself, so for us kon-native English speakers it can help to do the Microsoft Speech Recognition Training more than the recommended three times, per the VoiceAttack manual. I have done it at least 20. And the more you use it, the better it becomes. It's also important to remember that if one changes the microphone, one needs to make a new profile in the speech recognition (Windows control panel), and do the training again. If you have an RTX GPU, you can install Nvidia Broadcast and turn on the noice cancelling. Many users free recommend that.

Thanks for your advice.

Game commander was a software (win 95 ?), similar to VoiceAttack : voice recognition, and you associated a sequence of key strokes to a phrase. Worked very good, even for non native English.

I tried VoiceAttack with Viacompro : I managed to say "request refuel" "ready pre-contact" and be understood, and the command was issued to DCS. Worked fine. "Abort rejoin" didn't work out at all.

Then I tried an other mission. Tried to say "request picture", "engage my target", "flight engage bandits", ... but nothing happened. Heard some beeps, hi tone, low tone, I suppose that meant understood / not understood.

I tried "Sukhumi request take off", VoiceAttack understood "Subcomittee, request a cough" 😕 My english pronunciation is still better than the french pilots of the red flag M2000 campaign one.

I also use the Pimax VR headset microphone, and Windows says the volume is low.

I was asking because I did have a hardware speech recognition card for Windows 95. I'm positive it named Game Commander, while I could be wrong. I still have it somewhere. 😊

No wonder as the correct command is "abort refuel". 😉 Whenever a command is not recognised, it's usually because it actually doesn't exist in the keywords. For some reason VoiceAttack doesn't give you hints to if the command is just bad speech, or it can't be matched to any of the keywords.

Controlling AI currently will be a hit or miss in DCS.

You can't request picture if there ain't no AWACS obviously, radios need to be correctly set. And of course you have to call the correct recipient.

Still, it's not VoiceAttack nor VAICOM that does the recognition. It seems the keywords from the keywords editor haven't been pushed to the VoiceAttack profile with the "Finish" step. Without the correct keywords in the profile. VoiceAttack can never match the speech to any commands. That's how it works. In the future AI will just fix this.

Thanks for your advice. With some training and tweaks (percents of confidence and rejection), pause between words (like "three" ... "engage") I now manage a rather good use of VoicAttack.

Hello,

just a little tip, french me too.

I use "Voice attack" and Vaicom pro with  French patch.

Do not hesitate to do the "Speech engine training" often

Best regards

Christian

I have enabled VSPX in VAICOM. So I don't have to pause.
Unfortunately, the FINNISH step is bugged with VSPX enabled.
