Isn't it when the higher you go, the the more efficient your jet engines are?

Thus higher speeds at lower power settings?

I've been doing some high altitude Flights with the Eagle.

Seems that 25,000 feet is the best level, since i achieve my highest subsonic Ground speed without using reheat at this Altitude. Usually the plane flies at around 560-570 Knots Ground speed or 0.8-0.9 mach.

Any higher, i'll have to use burners just to maintain 560+ GS

The F-15C is underpowered in LO at altitude.

In addition the drag of stores is far too high (on all aircraft)

However, efficiency relates to fuel consumption, not your speed ;)

Another LOFC Eagle ailment? Sighs~

anyways what's the ideal lbs per hour value?

I think my lil aviation knowledge is messed up but fuel consumption varries at altitudes right? or was it engine oil pressure..

Fuel consumption does vary with altitude among other factors (edited, I should have said in RL, have no idea if this implemented in LO). The optimum altitude varies from aircraft to aircraft and from engine to engine. AFAIK, you should not fly the aircraft by fuel consumption or pounds per hour (PPH) because it is not a standard measurement. I know in the F-16 with GE engine PPH is not look at nor verified above idle and during idle it can vary greatly.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

I don't know but I feel Su-27\33 eats same amount of fuel when lower and higher oO and it eats much faster than Eagle.

I noticed difference only with MiG-29 when you are at 12000 m you can afterburner on long time.

I think the only air craft that might have this model at all is the SU-25A or T. I doubt any other one is actually model. I have never tried testing it. I do not even think Fuel Flow gauges work properly in any aircraft in LOFC.

It can be rather true cos when I begun fly Hog I noticed with similar fuel Hog fly longer. About twice. Or maybe it is in real... but I rather agree with mvsgas.

when you fly low you burn more feul. But yeah it depends on the engine, type of aircraft, whats on the a/c, alt, weather everything....

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Oh yah~ Why am i worrying about fuel consumption~

I'm not flying an airliner~

Anyway, I'd just use 25,000 feet as an average operating altitude~ :)

Because one of these days you might want to fly a little more realistically and actually extend the amount of fuel you have available for combat ... which means NOT going MIL thrust. ;)

Lastly, why are you flying by GS? Aircraft require airspeed to fly and to maneuver, not ground-speed. AFAIK, fuel consumption efficiency is also tied to your airspeed, as well as altitude and throttle setting.

Well at least not to think about fuel way too much, as if i'm computing for landing weight based on fuel, etc, etc..

Things that commercial pilots do..

but yah, i'm not really ignoring the fuel of the plane. Fuel is life for the jet.

but I'll still enjoy this as a PC Software though.

I don't really fly by GS. I just use it as reference when navigating.

Of course i wouldn't be using Ground speed when already in battle. I'll be on IAS instead.

:)

I remember posting something similar back then, 350-400 KIAS was a good flight speed right?

Edit: oh nevermind~ I found it in one of my previous Threads~ :)

Sorry if i derailed my own topic~

Anyway, Last Question to the Eagle People,

Do you always fly in Military power? or use it only when necessary?

Maybe I got spoiled in the A-10 being in full MIL most of the time~ :)

I fly in MIL when in a climbout or when otherwise required. Normally I'll cruise around at 350.
