I've played this mission many times

i get to the part where you need to travel to the west of Point Echo (Delta) and orbit

mission says it is 10miles to the west of Echo

when i get there and orbit at 5000ft, nothing happens

is it because u need to complete a full fence in procedure? or will a shortened fence in like in the Gamblers campaign suffice ?

You fence in however you like. There is a 4 mile wide trigger zone 10 miles west of echo, hard to miss. Have you pressed spacebar to confirm the coordinates? Can you send a screenshot of the message history menu to see what were the last lines?

also check the infobar to make sure you’re really at 5k. Your altimeter may be off

thanks

yes have inputted the coordinates and set it as a new steerpoint

i travel 10 miles west of that steerpoint and nothing happens

i have circled around that point at all alitudes - 5000 - 6000ft

Please send me that screenshot

These are the alternatives why it's not working:

1) you entered the echo point incorrectly

2) you entered it correctly but didn't choose the the echo point as the active WP

3) you entered it correctly but you're not 10 miles west of it (+/-2 miles)

4) you're not at 5k (below 6k)

5) you didn't press spacebar to confirm the coordinates before ( but then you wouldn't have gotten the fence in chatter either)

Thanks

i just tried it again now, still does not work

went exact 10 miles west of Echo point and established an orbit at angels 5

Okay, then you did everything you had to, you're just not at the right place. You either didn't punch the coordinates correctly, didn't select it as active WP or you're not 10 miles west of it. Or maybe your INS is messed up.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the mission works if you're where you're supposed to be. As to why you're not I cannot tell based on the very limited info I have. I wish I could help more. Check out some navigation tutorials in the Viper to see how to enter a new WP and select a course:

Just a thought, as it is a Viper-specific thing that has caught me out cold a couple of times (and, from what I've seen on YouTube, even those that are intimately familiar with the Viper 🙂)

Did you by any chance mess around with the targeting pod prior to setting Echo point (Mav boresighting, for example)? If so, did you "CZ" the pod before going to nav mode?

Cz will indeed get you if you aren't paying attention. But judging by the screenshot, I don't see cz on his hsd so that's not it. I don't see why he would slew from that point on

Yeah, good point. I didn't see it on the screenshot (all that text over the image).

BTW, while you're here, I really enjoy your campaign playthrough videos! They are a treasure trove for learning this module!

My MO is to fly the mission, then watch your video of that mission (and take notes for the inevitable second play through of this campaign). For example, using GM to create a markpoint from bullseye coordinates; I never even thought about that.

One question: for those of us who like to role-play this thing, what is the external light policy in the Air Force? When do I set to flash vs steady, for example?

First, thank you. I appreciate all that. Second and to not hijack the thread going forward, I'm not sure exactly sure the policy, only what I have observed and gathered personally. Just situational and small things between night and day.

Great idea, I've also been there and done that haha 😄

Yeah, if you slew the targeting pod anywhere, you need to recenter it (TMS down twice IIRC) otherwise your waypoints will be offset.
