Just to inform, with the new V72 update for Quest 3, random microstutterings or "lag spikes" have been practically eliminated. Now it runs completely smoothly when using Virtual Desktop (H264+ at 500mbs). Let's hope it stays this way and Meta doesn't mess it up again.... Has anyone else experienced the same with latest V72?

So a Meta update impacts how well the headset works with virtual desktop? I thought the whole point of VD was to get out of the meta ecosystem?

I´m referring to meta firmware V72. It impacts everything.

Virtual Desktop gets you away from using the meta pc app.  Not sure how it works in the headset itself but I would assume that it still has to interact with the meta software in the headset

Copy. I guess that makes sense - Meta controls device firmware - which then interacts with VD software - to (hopefully) provide better overall experience. :)

Have not got the new update yet. But, do you feel you get better performance using H264+ at 500mbs rather than AV1 @ 200mbs ?

The Virtual Desktop desktop has a note regarding AV1 and high bitrates causing decoding/networking/encoding causing issues.

I lost about 5% or more of my FPS with firmware v71. I've tested it against another headset still running v69 to confirm. Just enough difference to prevent me maintaining 45fps for reprojection. I now have to use the CLI tool to lock it at 30hz

I was hoping v72 gets it back to v69 frame rates

In DCS (and some other games) I still get slightly better results with link cable than VD. More consistent and slightly clearer. With VD I'm connecting consistently with Wifi6E @ 2400 too

Just want to mention that for me, link cable is terrible in msfs2024 for some reason and I need to use VD to have any kind of smooth fps, even with resolution dropped / GFX setting at lowest possible. In all my other games cabled link is better overall

i couldn't see anything noticeably better with my tracking in v72. With meta rolling out only parts of an update to different users, it's hard to know what's been updated. Can you see any improvement?

I think meta will always be stuck with a noisy raw tracking input which they'll have to average out, so I guess we'll always have the slight lag. The almost zero lag and stability with the ultraleap makes it so good. I wish that was built into the Q3 headset.

My Link cable has completely stopped working, I think since the last update. Have tried another cable and another PC but no luck. The cable is charging the QPro so it is being recognised. I'm guessing it's a software issue. Meta support is looking into it. In the meantime I'm using Virtual Desktop which is working nicely.

exact same experience here. It´s been an ongoing issue since v69 or so.

v72 fixed it for me. But remember there are multiple different firmware builds around and people might be on different builds despite same version.

If you are on V72 make sure to disable auto updates in the headset because it´s only a matter of time until Meta break it again and there is absolutely no way to revert back to a previous version. Actually made me abandon VR for a couple months. I hate what Meta are doing for PCVR. They clearly have no interest in it.
