Buzzer1977 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I already did the repair / cleanup thing, but DCS constantly crashes since the last update. Might be the mission, because i was using the new Iraq map. The sample mission that constantly will either freeze DCS sooner or later crash if i quit the mission and switch back to the mission editor. The crash seems fatal, because it doesn't even write a crash dump or anything in the log. debrief.log cef_log.log dcs.log AMD Ryzen 9 5950x, MSI MEG x570 Unify, G.Skill 128GB DDR4-3200, MSI RTX3090 Ventus 3x 24GB, Samsung PCIe 4.0 M.2 1TB 980 Pro, Seagate PCIe 4.0 M.2 2TB FireCuda 520, Quest 3

DCS is not showing a crash in the logs as you mentioned. there are lots of shader errors which may a symptom. have you looked in window event viewer for something occuring at the same time as the DCS stops working? also share the offending mission. others can try it to see what happens. Buzzer1977 Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 It just happened again. Even without this mission by just opening the mission editor. No overclocking on anything. All configured standard out of the box. Seems like Incredibuild RestService.exe crashed because it was a outdated version incompatible with the most recent VS2022, so i uninstalled it. Buzzer1977 Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) Yesterday i updated my BIOS, all drivers including CPU and Chipset drivers and cleared the fault bucket. No errors since until i did the following: Started with a vanilla DCS folder, logged in and quit, then restarted DCS. (I didn't copy back the old DCS files, i just restarted dcs to make sure that saving the password still worked) Switched several times between editor and main menu. This time it hung when creating a new mission, right after selecting the map and coalitions. Update: I ran a memory test and it couldn't find any problems dcs.log DxDiag.txt Report.wer Edited December 16, 2024 by Buzzer1977 update: memory test AMD Ryzen 9 5950x, MSI MEG x570 Unify, G.Skill 128GB DDR4-3200, MSI RTX3090 Ventus 3x 24GB, Samsung PCIe 4.0 M.2 1TB 980 Pro, Seagate PCIe 4.0 M.2 2TB FireCuda 520, Quest 3
Buzzer1977 Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 nullI attached the profiler from VisualStudio. It seems some times it just freezes for some time. Some times long enough to cause the hang. Buzzer1977 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Found out: It seems related to my Windows profile, because i've got some network drives mapped that are not always available. The question is: Why isn't other software affected? What does DCS differently when scanning the directory structure? good question. i personally had an issue many moons ago with the slideshow for windows desktop. you know where you can pick anywhere to call the images and it changes at intervals? that was causing stutters. disk reads are a real problem with DCS. i do not do anything such as this when DCS is running. so makes sense but does not explain why DCS chokes. DCS is like a beautiful but crazy girlfriend. Buzzer1977 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 nullI attached the process monitor. Seems like DCS is doing a gazillion of unnecessary, redundant IO requests. Multiplied by the slower response from the OS due to the network drives this accumulates to the hangs. I've added the zipped procmon log for DCS.exe during the hang.
