Mike_CK Posted January 3 Posted January 3 This isn Really a bug so I posted here So, I mistakenly dropped by MK-20 rockeye on the convoy failing to realize that my wingman was supposed to drop HIS. So now I’m wincester. I get a call about new tasking, switch over and my guy informs the controller that my flight only has 20mm (pretty sure…although he may have also said mk-20)The controller then tasks me with taking out a house and vehicles by a lake. Problem is that my pilot tells my wingman that I will drop my MK-20 and then he should strafe. Well…I don’t HAVE a mk-20. So despite my best efforts of strafing myself, the mission never advanced. Everyone on the Kola peninsula just waiting for me to drop a rockeye I don’t have. Also, I was down to 2900lbs of fuel can we please get an F-10 option to declare “wincester” and advance the mission. Also, a “I’m bingo” or something that will trigger the boss to order me to go refuel?
L4key Posted January 4 Posted January 4 The problem here is: 1. You didn’t follow the orders 2. Campaign scripting is very difficult and limited as I understand it and does not allow much flexibility. I did the same as it happens(!) so not being a dick, but my strafing/ wingman’s must have worked as the mission did progress although my score was only 65. I think you have to accept things like this with the mission design being limited the way it is. Especially when you haven’t followed the script and given the triggers every chance. IMHO this campaign is pretty good for flexibility. Just run it again or skip as I’ve not seen the f10 requests you’ve made implemented anywhere else so not sure they would be possible. I’m no expert though so I’m sure BD will confirm. 2
Mike_CK Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 (edited) Ok. To clarify, I’m not suggesting that there is something wrong with the mission; that’s why I didn’t post in Bugs. I’m simply asking for an F-10 option declaring wincester or needing fuel as a way to “bypass” the scripts in cases like this (where I not only lack the weapons but am running out of fuel. i understand that with heavy scripting, it’s impossible to foresee every stupid thing the player does. But, I think it is perfectly forseeable that in a given scenario, a player may find himself unable to complete the assigned task due to not having the ordinance, being low on fuel, damaged aircraft, etc. I think it’s both reasonable and realistic to have a way of notifying be controller (the mission scripting in our case) that you aren’t able to complete the mission so it can move on to the next one, order you back home or order you to hit the tanker based on the F-10 message. On this occasion, I conducted 3 strafing runs taking out both vehicles snd heavily damaging the house….yet even after that, nothing happened so I flew back to base. It’s not the end of the world and I can replay it….jusy a recommendation for a way to deal with player mistakes or problems that interfer with the scripting Edited January 4 by Mike_CK 1
rob10 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Agree with L4key's points. All you need to do to advance to the next mission is click SKIP in the campaign mission selection window. Since that's available I don't think it's on the campaign creator to add it as an F10 menu option. 1
Mike_CK Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Yeah. I did that. I just enjoy completing missions with a return to base and a landing using proper procedures. like I said, it’s not a bug. It’s just that I can foresee times when due to a mistake, jettisoning ordinance to avoid a missle, low fuel, aircraft damage or a missed trigger (for whatever reason), I am unable to do what the JTAC/controller is asking me to do l. so i thought an “I can’t comply wincester”, “I can’t comply fuel” or “unable. Next task” might be a way to “force” the scenario scripting to move forward. It’s certainly not unrealistic. But, it’s up to BD. Either way I’m still playing. really enjoying this.
baltic_dragon Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I'm trying to envisage as many possible events as possible, but with a scripted campaign it is not doable to have all areas covered. One idea would be to just give an option via F10 to always say "need to abort", then RTB and land, which would cause the campaign to progress. Though honestly - having some save game feature in DCS would be absolutely fantastic. For more information, please visit my website.
