Caldera Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Hey All, I have played DCS quite allot in the past mostly jets and helicopters. I had taken a break (about a year) and I am starting to play more. I decided to focus on warbirds. I play on a 32 inch monitor and having icons turned on (just a dot), at this point anyways, is almost a requirement for me. At best, my vision is compromised. But what I found out (again) is that I can not (could not) really spot or see ground or air targets unless I get (got) pretty close. They are just too small. Trying to dogfight is (was) an exercise in frustration. The icon dots seem translucent and are also very hard to see. Today I tried dropping the screen resolution from 2560x1440 to 1920x1080, which in itself is mostly annoying. The difference however is transforming the game for me. I find it amazing as to how much better objects appear and I honestly don't notice the difference in clarity of everything else. Even the icons appear opaque at much longer distances. So this is going to be a thing for me and I recommend it for others struggling. The downside is that I play other games... On a side note, for some reason the game itself prefers this resolution, as the interface and text sizing can be set at the 1 vs 1.25 ratio. That is a bit weird and it is the same for Windows. So maybe, 1080p kind of still seems to be the "native" screen resolution, at least for monitors in DCS. But I have a problem. The initial DCS window is off screen to the bottom right on my monitor at the reduced resolution. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance, Caldera
Solution draconus Posted January 10 Solution Posted January 10 DCS > options > gameplay > spotting dots - try 2 pixel version for 2k. SmuliS Posted January 12 Posted January 12 That seems to be the launcher. Launcher window can be moved with right click and drag with your mouse. 1
Schmidtfire Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I have been playing DCS for a very long time and the only "Dots" I know are the Label dots set in the Mission Editor. Is the spotting dots something new added to DCS? Or is it the same thing?

It's been tweaked in 2023-2024 by ED. Basically it's a black single pixel or 2x2 square (depends on the display device, rendering resolution and spotting dots option set) over the air and ground units at distance when they would no longer be rendered normally as a visible model and they fade out with more distance. Caldera Posted February 25 Author Posted February 25 Gotcha, so jumping ahead... On my monitor, if I am using 1920-1080 then one pixel and 2560x1400 then two pixels? Caldera
