About one month ago, I did a new pc build and reinstalled Voice Attack and Vaicom Pro. I imported 3 small profiles specific to individual aircraft (P-47, A-10C and F/A-18C). Vaicom Pro commands work perfectly across all three aircraft modules but the global profiles are recognized in Voice Attack but are not executed in DCS.

Prior to the new build I had no issue with global profiles executing with Vaicom Pro. I'm sure I have overlooked something during the VA/Vaicom setup/configuration but after a month of tearing my hair out, I have come begging! Attached is a screen shot of my VA/Vaicom setup. Any suggested directions are most welcome. Enjoy your weekend!

Don't add them as global profiles, piggy back them into the VAICOM profile directly. You know how?

When you say these commands "are recognized" I assume you mean that they show up as recognized phrases by VoiceAttack, but that they trigger no actions. If that is the case, open the profile editor for your VAICOM PRO profile and open the options tab. There is a check box there labeled "Exclude Global Profiles." Make sure it isn't checked. If it is checked, that is the problem.

If it isn't checked then there is another problem somewhere, and it would help to turn on debugging and show us the VoiceAttack log of what happens when you try to execute one of these commands. Also, I'm assuming that the commands are NOT in your VAICOM PRO profile since if they are then the version in the VAICOM PRO profile takes precedence over the global profile command.

Thanks gentlemen:

@MAXsenna "Don't add them as global profiles, piggy back them into the VAICOM profile directly. You know how?" I do not! Please share. I was exploring if new commands could be added directly but have come up no joy to date 😉

@sthompson "There is a check box there labeled "Exclude Global Profiles." Make sure it isn't checked. If it is checked, that is the problem." The box is unchecked and should allow global profiles
"Also, I'm assuming that the commands are NOT in your VAICOM PRO profile since if they are then the version in the VAICOM PRO profile takes precedence over the global profile command." You assume correctly sir!

If you wanna quote, just mark the text, and a little "Quote" should popup. Anyways...

  1. Open the VAICOM profile for editing,
  2. Open "Options"
  3. Click to open "..."
  4. Click "+" to open drop down menu. (Mine is empty on this computer).
  5. Select the profile(s) you want, and click "OK" where relevant, all the way out

@MAXsenna What you posted re: piggy backing was already being done (sorry, I didn't understand what you suggested. It sounded like adding the commands directly into Vaicom from the global profiles). As you can see below, this is how I'm currently set (any other ideas?) and thanks again:

Right! it's hard to see the picture on my cell. And you wrote you added them as global profiles, which they are not , and I went by that.
Oki, something is blokking them. Are you pressing a TX when you speak them?
Maybe you used to have REL/HOT enabled before?

As I wrote previously, it would help to turn on VAICOM debugging, restart VoiceAttack, try one of the commands, and show us the VoiceAttack log of what happens when you try to execute one of these commands.

Since it appears that your Voice Attack/Vaicom has a problem communicating with DCS, it may be worthwhile checking the export.lua files.

These are in your  ... \Saved Games\DCS\Scripts folder

The Export.lua has a link to VAICOMPRO.export.lua

The VAICOMPRO.export.lua file is full of technical stuff like sockets and stuff way beyond my comprehension. However it has one advantage. If you rename or delete this file it will be re-created on the next program start. This may be worth trying.

Quite the opposite actually. VAICOM works perfectly according to his OP, while ordinary VoiceAttack commands don't.

@sgilewicz have specifically set DCS as the target app, not just active window for those profiles? And please come back and tell us if you press a TX when speaking the commands. When they're run through VAICOM one needs to press a TX or enable REL/HOT.

Cheers!

Yeah. I take your point.

However, the DCS profiles are shown as global, so they should get loaded automatically with the startup profile Vaicom pro,

I would like to see what happens if this was reversed, or better yet if Voice Attack was set in diagnostic mode.

(Also my  favorites method of last resort is to nuke Saved Games)

IIRC, commands executes in this priority order. From the current loaded profile, profile added in another profile, (how I add other profiles to my VAICOM profile, and then global profiles.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

Enabling Rel/Hot did the trick. Vaicom commands work with PTT while global profiles execute with just speech in VA and DCS. This setting was obviously enabled in my prior build but I'll be danged if I remember setting it (default setting maybe?). Just for my edification, what does the Rel/Hot actually do? It appears to allow non-Vaicom profiles to execute without PTT while still requiring PTT for Vaicom.

Can't thank y'all enough. Now I can re-immerse into Reflected's Wolfpack campaign! Virtual beers to everyone!

Cool! Can you mark my post as solution for future reference?

Hmmm... They should have executed while holding a TX, did you try? 😉 Remember, pressing a TX unmutes the microphone, while a release mutes it again. So it's not possible to issue a command if you don't press a TX the way VAICOM works, unless enabling REL/HOT. It's sort what TX5 was intended, while not necessary.

It enables hotmic for ordinary VoiceAttack commands. And is not enabled by default. Remember to turn it off in the Tomcat if you intend to speak with Jester without using a TX. ICS must also be enabled in the cockpit. I have made voice commands to turn REL/HOT on/off. These are not keybinds, but VAICOM commands. Actually, almost everything in the VAICOM control panel can be controlled this way. Similar to the Kneeboard commands.

🎯

Apologies for being pedantic. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Global VoiceAttack commands are defined i the VoiceAttack settings, and have the lowest priority, if it happens to be identical command. "Piggybacked" profiles have higher priority. I don't remember from the VA manual what they are called. I'm only mentioning this for prosperity, as I got confused at first, while it also put me on the right path to actually understand the issue.

Thanks for the beer! 😄 Have one yourself.

Cheers! 🍻

Marked as "Solved" and verified that "piggyback" profile commands execute with or without PTT in DCS. What a community! You guys rock!
