toby23 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I am having a problem with certain textures not coming into focus. (see screenshot below) The only edit I have made to my config files is to set haze=0 and min fps=29. Changing the LOD day and night values in the graphics.cfg file does not change anything. My Nvidia Control Panel is also set up correctly so it's not that either. The weird thing is that the textures on the top of the mountain and the bottom of the mountain were correct, only those in the middle were blurred. I would be very grateful if someone can help me sort this out, it looks ugly and ruins the fun I am having learning to fly the Ka-50. It happened to me in the first mission, 'Altitude'. Do I need to change the terrain preload or something? it's currently at 50. Thanks, Toby With all due respect, please do not suggest that I reinstall drivers, system, buy a new graphic card etc.... my pc is working fine, I just need a solution for this texture problem, thank you.. :pilotfly: My System Info: Q9650 stock, BFG GTX 260 with 186.18 July 2nd WHQL Drivers, Win XP SP3, 4gb Ram, P5Q Mobo, Trackir 4 pro, X52, Apple 30'' Cinema Display Ryzen 5800X, 32GB RAM, RTX 3060
Feuerfalke Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 What are your AF & FSAA settings of your drivers? Maybe increasing AF will help. What settings do you have ingame? Visibility range and textures decrease the distance at which all textures are drawn sharp. slug88 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Just curious, why do you set haze=0? If it's anything like LOMAC (which, considering that DCS uses the same engine, it probably is), disabling haze also disables a variety of other graphical effects, and texture filtering is among them. I would try setting haze back to the default value and see if that improves it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
toby23 Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 @feuerfalke - 4xAA, 16xAF - set through nvidia control panel (not the problem) @slug88 - When i disable haze: 1. Ground textures further away than 1km radius from my helicopter are detailed and not blurred. Without this, all textures further away than about 1km are blurred. 2. I do not have dancing shadows on the horizon I have tried leaving haze at it's default setting of 1 and then replacing the cloudshadow.tga file with a blank alpha. This removes the dancing shadows but does nothing to improve the quality of the textures outside of a 1km area around my helicopter.... Does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of the problem..? slug88 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 toby, you didn't answer my question. I understand that turning off the haze seems to improve the quality of distant textures. However, it also disable other graphical effects (afaik at least lighting and anisotropic filtering). Therefore my question remains; have you specifically checked if this problem remains when haze is enabled? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Dave317 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I have exactly the same thing. I posted about it a while back and people seemed to think it was my grafics card, i've since changed it and it's still the same. I have tried reinstalling the game with haze=1 and haze=0 and it makes no difference. Is it possible part of the texture was missing when i downloaded it?
toby23 Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 @slug88 - When haze is enabled, I don't have this problem. The problem then is that the draw distance for sharp textures is too small (approx 2km around heli), how can I extend this without disabling haze? Thanks, toby Ryzen 5800X, 32GB RAM, RTX 3060
slug88 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Toby, then I would very strongly recommend leaving haze enabled, and looking at modifying the LOD constants to improve your texture situation. Perhaps you could post some screens of how it looks for you when haze is enabled? It's possible that there's another issue that's giving you sharpness problems, as I feel that the sharpness don't start getting blurry until well past 2km on my setup. You've got visible distance set to high in the options screen, correct? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
toby23 Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 @slug88 - haze is enabled and i have been playing with the LOD values but it doesn't change anything. VisibRng is only for drawing buildings and trees, not textures (afaik). Even changing LODMult and LOD Day and night values doesn't do anything... I think ED have changed the settings that the programme uses for LOD compared to LOMAC. I think it must be calling the LOD texture setting from a lua file but I can't find which one. I would really like to be able to increase the sharpness of ground textures. Could you try flying the Altitude mission, speed up until you get to the valley entrance, then see what you think... If it's like on my set-up, the mountains around you look ridiculous and those near you look great... Ryzen 5800X, 32GB RAM, RTX 3060
