Does anyone have any experience using both of these headsets? Is it worth upgrading from the QP and losing eye tracking? How does quality and performance compare?

I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I’d advise against Pimax if you have experience with a Quest. I got very used to a huge sweet spot with the Quest, and very little (if any) chromatic aberration. I’ve also found all of the Quest models to be comfortable and generally work with my head shape and size. The Pimax, on the other hand, is plagued by quality issues (many receive multiple sets of lenses before getting any that are satisfactory), is very, very uncomfortable, and has a tiny sweet spot with a ton of chromatic aberration. Just one person’s opinion. I honestly don’t believe the is any comparison.

My experience completely aligns with av8orDave. Theoretically on paper, the Crystal Light should be the HP Reverb G2 2.0. Everything seems great, .... on paper. In real-life, there are too many build issues, software snafus, and problems with Pimax support to recommend the Crystal Light. In the back of my mind there is a counter, .... call it, the, .... How many times does X headset f%^@ up in one month reliability counter. The Crystal Light ticks pretty high, ... the QP does not. Because the hand tracking has become so good with the Quest Pro (no need for devices like PointControl), and I can reach a stable 72 Hz with pretty much any aircraft with all DCS settings maxed out, it has become my go-to high-end sweetspot. The QP does not deliver the pixel density of the Varjo Aero but its usability is higher. You get 95 to 97% of the Aero with a less time consuming experience.

Thanks. You've saved me some cash. I think I'll stick with the QP.

Welcome. Just read the reviews Qcumber, you will see many issues with Pimax. Also, I notice your 4070 card, ... easier to push the QP. You're just going to get an all-around better experience.

This is very accurate. The Pimax Reddit channel looks like a quality assurance forum. It’s basically just a page of people complaining that their Pimax headsets don’t work, have bad lenses, or generally suck.

Understand that I say this as someone REALLY WANTING the Pimax product to be the answer to PCVR for flight sims. It would be incredible to have a high quality, high performance, display-port-driven option for PCVR, but the Pimax falls well short.

I'm thinking about getting an rtx5080 when back in stock so am thinking from this perspective regarding headset upgrade.

I have the Quest Pro coupled with a 4090 and as far as I'm concerned it's the bees knees!

My views on Pimax are known so I wont write them again. Other than to say in addition to all the points, the Pimax costs *a lot* more in aggregate because it's a Land Rover when it comes to resale value. No one wants to buy one off you because everyone assumes that you're selling because your unit is somehow faulty. So you get shafted from both ends

To some this is a good time; and I do not kinkshame them

Interesting. I have Pimax (Crystal Light) and I have no problems with it. The lenses are perfect, the speed is fantastic (RTX3090Ti !!). I had a G2 headset before, Pimax is much better, the inscriptions and instruments are perfectly readable. I love it!

As a current owner of the HPG2/PIMAX 8kx/Pico4 on AMD 6900XT

I purchased Crystal light on a whimp on Amazon $A1390.

I have to agree with leonsilver. the clarity is unmatched,

However, in the end I made hard decision to return the crystal.. simply because like all PImax headset (due to focal length 1.0m)

Pimax crystal required me to wear prescription glasses.  by using a thick foam, that result in reducing a already relative small FOV.

Also currently crystal light does not have 60hz. For relatively old GPU... 60hz is a must for me

But anyone looking to upgrade their HP G2 or looking get their first VR headset.

It is a no brainer.. IMHO crystal light is the far away best bang per buck

Thanks for your replies but I am really looking for a direct comparison between the quest pro and crystal light. Someone who has experience of using both headsets.
