Why stuttering? Do i need more RAM? QUEST 3 (desync problem on mp servers) / Fixed.

Hi i post here the solutions wich made all problems gone.

1. upgrade to 64gig of ram

2. install empty hangar mod.

3. and this was the worst problem, desyncs on mp servers with much players caused a problem with my quest 3 headset. after the stutter the headset track was wobbeling and i also  had graphic problems, especially on the hud when moving the head there were a lot of like pixels. only resetting the headset was helping here or alt+tab.

the solution here was 100% sure to turn off hardware accelerated gpu sceduling.

(system-diskplay-related settings list, click on graphics, and here i turned everything off, auto hdr./optimized window games and hardware accelerated gpu sceduling.

with these changes i also have a nearly perfect experience also on well populated mutliplayer servers.

if i can help someone it would made me happy.

here the OP:

Hi, i play DCS in VR now and its realy great, i cant play non vr anymore because its so nice.

I also have fine 60-70 Frames.

But when i play online and i change into map and back into cockpit sometimes i have only 5 Frames for about 1-2 Minutes, wich is horrible (and i think its after some switches between map and cockpit, i will also try just flying without using the map the next days and look if i have this issue as well), after that everything goes normal again.

null

My System:

Amd Ryzen 7 5700 8 Core Proz.

32gb ram

geforce rtx 4070

i looked in the task manager when i have these stutters, ram is at 80% and also gp is only at 90%.

So iam not sure, what can be the issue here?

As far i saw i never had this problem offline, but iam not 100% sure.

thank you.

What headset do you have?

Please attach your C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log file (may just be a text document named "dcs" if your Windows is hiding file extensions).

The F10 map is a known issue for VR with massive fps drops. There are some workarounds which may help:

  • Use the Empty VR hangar for less VRAM usage and faster F-10 ingame map which will save VRAM as otherwise the hanger is always there, including when viewing the map.
  • Make sure to recenter the map and zoom in on your plane before entering the cockpit again
  • Alt-tab out of the game, wait a few seconds, and then alt-tab back in again
  • Try using the DCS Web Editor Moving Map with OpenKneeboard for an ingame dynamic map without needing the F10 map
  • Lower your texture settings

As you only have 32Gb RAM I'd also recommend create a custom page file. Create a custom page file, just a single one (removed any other system managed ones) on your fastest SSD. Set the Initial and Max values to 32768, click Set, Apply, and restart your PC.

I had to reinstall DCS after a HDD failure. I was like wow this has obvious micro stuttering.... Then I remember to unpark all the CPU cores. That is the one tick that actually seems to work. Its obvious when not in use.

I dont have access to the name right now but if you haven't check into dcs and unparking CPU cores. its a simple software tool that will possibly help you in this case depending on the type of stuttering you have.

First off, loading into a map usually kills FPS for a moment, but shouldn't do so for more than a minute

what you can check for now, is increasing your virtual memory (page/swap file), 32gb isn't a lot for VR, if that stops/diminishes the stuttering you may have found your problem

I also noticed after Nvidia 572.16 some more stuttering than usual with my specs, see what happens with the prior driver

Depends a bit.
I had no problem with 32GB of RAM with my previous system is but decided to go for 64GB for the one I have now (2 years old now).
With the Irak map I noticed it would use up to +40GB of RAM so if I only had 32 it would need to swap things around at some point which might cause a bit of stuttering while doing so, who knows. With 64GB that problem doesn't exist.... yet.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

I've seen 50GB in use on Grayflag and other large multi servers.  64GB, unparking CPU cores and turning off hyperthreading has provided the smoothest experience on my system. YMMV

hi,

i did 3 things:

1. upgrade to 64gig of ram

2. made pagefile bigger (i think thats not nececary anymore because of 64 gig but i see now that in mp dcs need more than 40gig so 32 was a problem)

3. installed empty hangar mod wich is good, it makes loading after joining mp servers faster.

and this fixed the problem with all stutters, map changing is no problem anymore, also outside views of other players and joining back mages no lag anymore.

i think it should be sayd, when you play multiplayer on big maps with many people you NEED 64gig of ram.

The last Problem i have and thats a tiny one is shown here in op:

thank you
