Just ordered the Pimax Crystal Light - looks to be a decent upgrade over my HP G2 with my system. Anything I need to know to get it working well? How are people finding the visual comparison in DCS?

Avoid using SteamVR for OpenXR. You fix that by choosing the right option in the Pimax Play App. You will figure that one out by checking the option inside Pimax Play.

Hi - got the setup finally sorted, a bit more fiddly than the G2 but worth it. I'd say the image quality is ~a 60% improvement when you take into account the wider FOV and the extra detail....the G2 equivalent sweet spot is much wider in the CL and it is sharper. Also, massively annoying jittering of the cursor when trying to select buttons in the cockpit is gone with the CL ... feels generally a more cohesive visual experience. FPS on a par if not a tad better on my system. Interestingly, mission load times in VR are faster on the CL; the G2 chugged slowly on the setup screen. On the downside, it is less comfortable but I bought the extra padded faceplate and that works great. Also lets me wear my glasses! Takes more time to set up software wise than the G2 but once done it is fine. Standard installed sound is around ~80% of the quality of the G2 speakers, which is fine for me, but I might upgrade to the external pimax ones. Overall, definitely an improvement and feels more future proof.

Hey.  Did you install any additional software other than Pimax Play?

I received my PCL today but I just cannot get DCS to display into the headset.  For sure it's launching in VR mode as I get a VR window on screen, but nothing but stars in the headset.

I don't have SteamVR set for OpenXR, and I'm launching DCS with the -force_enable_VR switch.  Unsure if I need the -force_OpenXR switch too.

Upgrading from G2 too!

You don't need this anymore. Just use the default launcher and select the VR option.

I have been using --force_enable_vr for a long time with DisplayMagician to launch several apps first, and then DCS in VR.

But the other day, I noticed that the  --force_enable_vr  parameter stopped working.   It does not launch me into VR anymore.  

Does it still work for you epoch??

AS a Previous G2 iser I would like to hear more thought on the CL.. I would really like to get one but I have my doubts..

 

Also have you seen the mod where somebody I think it was here where they uised the G2 heradphones on the CL..

I run mine on "high" and get about 45-50fps which feels fine for me. These are my settings:

I too was hesitant at first after reading about the quality issues, but I haven't had any issue to date and Pimax are very open and active in the VR community (Reddit / Discord etc).

 

The positives:

Much bigger sweet spot and sharper image than the G2.

Can quite easily wear my SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro headphones without having to remove the attached earphones.

There is enough room where I can wear my glasses.

CL is much more comfortable and better fitting headset than the G2.

 

The negatives:

PimaxPlay software isn't as refined or user-friendly as STEAM or WIndowsMR, but it is getting better. When in VR desktop mode, I wish I could move mouse pointer using my mouse instead of having to move my whole head because it's locked to the centre of the headset - very annoying. There might be a solution for this but I haven't found one yet.

The weight, it is heavier, and takes some getting used to.
