AngleOff66 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Looks like a repeat of the HUB attempt I think? Sorry for the reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1kr5bv7/gamers_nexus_announces_investigation_into_nvidias/ Go GN Go! 1
LucShep Posted May 20 Posted May 20 (edited) I think the problem of Nvidia is.... hubris. And there are things that, if joint together, can make things go bad for them at some point. Just look at Intel since last year. From darling to despised, thanks to overconfidence and complacency. Issues with one gen of CPUs (Raptor Lake) followed by disapointment of the following one (Arrow Lake). .....Hubris. It damaged their image, public perception, and it'll now take them at least another new generation of processors to catch up to their competitor (AMD), gather acceptance again. Now, looking at the current Nvidia GPUs - higher prices, mediocre generational performance uplift, driver issues for the last five months (and nine drivers released during the time?), power connector issues on 5090 and 5080... While AMD slowly gets market share with competitive and better priced GPU hardware for a given segment (RX9070/XT) and constantly improving software (drivers, FSR4). The Nvidia RTX 6000 series will have to be a tremendous improvement, reliable, and be correctly priced. Because, otherwise, and with these shady practices (media manipulation tactics?) being exposed, on top of what already is bad, maybe they become the next one falling from the pedestal... AngleOff66 Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 From the charts that I saw, Nvidia is making the majority of its money on the AI side. Gpu's are a side note now. Sure they still want that GPU money, but until and if a competitor shows up in AI, their hubris will be rewarded. Paraphrasing Steve in the video: If you(Nvidia) want to leave the GPU business, fine, but stop wrecking it for the rest of us. But there is that pesky hubris that Nvidia has. 1
Aapje Posted May 20 Posted May 20 @LucShep Ultimately, I think that the quality of the product is key, and a positive image is fairly marginal. People will buy the better product, even if they dislike the company, unless they can choose for similar quality from a more sympathetic company. The bigger issue for Intel and Nvidia is that the complacency and hubris led them to stop listening to consumers, which makes their products worse and worse, and that mindset is not easy to shake when it gets baked into the company. Even once the company starts losing market share and needs to change course. Just look at how Intel keeps refusing to make a long-lasting chipset that can support many generations of CPU, even though this is a big selling point for AMD. And Nvidia seems to believe that then can just keep adding more multi-frame generation to make people upgrade, rather than give people what they are asking for (more VRAM, more real performance and good drivers). 1

Agree with Steve on that Basically, the 50x0 is a(nother) promotion of their AI, not an actual evolution of their GPU's 1 Intel I5 13600k / AsRock Z790 Steel Legend / MSI 4080s 16G Gaming X Slim / Kingston Fury DDR5 5600 64Gb / Adata 960 Max / HP Reverb G2 v2 Virpil MT50 Mongoost T50 Throttle, T50cm Base & Grip, VFX Grip, ACE Interceptor Rudder Pedals w. damper / WinWing Orion2 18, 18 UFC & HUD, PTO2, 2x MFD1 / Logitech Flight Panel / VKB SEM V / 2x DIY Button Box
