LouP73 Posted Tuesday at 07:11 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:11 PM Hi All, My first post here. I'm brand new to DCS but trying to learn. I'm trying to get the hang of the A10-A for now but am having a hard time seeing enemy on the ground. Because I'm new at this I put labels on for now while I'm getting the hang of things. But I'm still having issues seeing any targets on the ground especially through the TVM. I've even active paused it and placed the camera over the label using the tv reticule in the HUD but still can't see anything. If I can't see an enemy while paused, I'm worried about the future while moving. I read somewhere that the higher the resolution of your display the harder it is to see a target (which makes no sense to me). I'm playing on a 55" Samsung UHD 4K television that looks great but don't understand why I can't see any targets on the ground. Am I more blind than I thought I was or is this just the way it is? LouP
SharpeXB Posted Wednesday at 02:23 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:23 AM (edited) Are you using the zoom view? Because you should be. And to be realistic it wouldn’t always be easy to see a ground target especially if it’s camouflaged. You should have no trouble getting realistic visibility with that display though. LouP73 Posted Wednesday at 05:48 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:48 PM Yes, I have the zoom tied to a slider on my Virpil throttle. Trouble with that is when I zoom in the opentrack jitters all over the place pretty much making that unusable. I was reading that the higher the resolution the more difficult it is, which makes sense to me now that I looked into it. Reason being that if the object is only showing up as 1 pixel, that pixel is very very small. I turn the spotting dots to auto but haven't tried that out yet. LouP
SharpeXB Posted Wednesday at 06:02 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:02 PM Maybe adjusting the response curves on OpenTrack would help. I don’t have trouble like that with TrackIR. Maybe the settings are too sensitive. You should be able to get very realistic visibility in 4K without the need for dots or labels. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
LouP73 Posted yesterday at 04:33 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:33 AM Track IR is known to be the most stable of the trackers out there, I just don't want to wear anything on my head anymore. Though this may be the good reason to go back to it. LouP
draconus Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago So you use face tracking? Never tried that but OpenTrack used to work fine for me with wireless clip solution (3 IR leds) and a modded PS3 Eye camera - I actually attached them to the side of headphones. For jittering try to go into filter options and increase the smoothing, just 1-2ms, because too much will cause noticable delays. As said ground targets, even when zoomed in to get more or less RL size, can be hard to find, especially when camouflaged and between other far objects. That's how it is. It's a skill also to search, find and engage before the threat becomes lethal. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

I just have to imagine head tracking is going to work better with actual sensors and that really just amounts to wearing a visor cap. But maybe this is worth a try. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
LouP73 Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago Yup, broke out my trusty Track IR ver 3 and got the proper software installed and it still works like a charm. Much more stable and I am having an easier time zooming in now. I tried to get it going before I bought beam eye tracker but it wasn't working. I've since found out that Natural Point stopped supporting the ver 3 hardware so I needed to install older drivers and software that still had support for it. After that it worked great. Wish I found all this out earlier, could have saved 30 bucks. At least I know how much better Track IR is and It was nice to not have to wear anything and having the software track my eyes and my head movement. I also heard that even Tobi is not as stable as Track IR so I could have thrown away ten times the amount of money. I also have a Pimax Crystal light and that thing is the nuts in DCS. The only problem is that there are just too many buttons to push in the real world with DCS aircraft. LouP
