barra733 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I've been playing the 1st part of the Georgian campaign all day. After a good 20 minutes blasting T-72's and air defences I retuned to the FARP, landed and re-armed. After returning to the battlefield I seemed unable to lock onto any targets or got intermittent locks with no ranges. Is my Laser burned out? How is this modelled in DCS BS, what are the time limits? Thanks
nemises Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 yes, sounds like it...symptoms are, you can suddenly no longer get a "C" when in auto weapons mode, and you should notice the range info is no good. If you then force a launch in manual mode, the Vhikr will usually fall short and hit the ground 2 or 3 KM's along... There is no warning light or indicator unfortunately. There was a post by Wags or Chizh with the exact set of circumstances that will cause .... it only seems to hapen after a re-arm though in my experieince of the problem. Since manually managing the laser usage by turning the laser designator off in between launches, so that I am not shooting it everytime I move the Shkval around with the HMS / desigante button, I have not had any problems.
Zembla Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 laser rangefinder has limitations: 5 series with intervals of 30 minutes; 16 cycles of 10 seconds with intervals of 5 seconds in each serie. You may be not following these rules in your flights (and make more range counts than it is possible) and this will result in not working rangefinder. Not a bug but a feature. press Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "serie" and what is a "cycle"?
Zembla Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 A cycle of 10 seconds means you can lase a target for 10 seconds (default), range it if you will. An interval of 5 seconds between each serie means you have to wait 5 seconds before you can lase again after lasing. Or are you trying to point out they are the same thing? In which case; the way I interpret it is as follows: you can range 16 targets, with 5 seconds between every 'lasing'. After you have completed such a serie you have to wait 30 minutes before you can start a new serie of 'lasings'. You can execute 5 such series of 16 'lasings'. -Z [sigpic][/sigpic] I aaaaaam ... a banana!
press Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 So: You can make 80 cycles (lasing+range) of 10 seconds each with a pause between two consecutive cycles of 5 seconds. After 80 cycles you have to take a 30 minutes laser pause. Right?
