In 1951, the 13350 ton  Colossus Class Light Carrier, HMS Triumph, conducted the first Angled Fight Deck trials.

Eric "Winkle" Brown was the test pilot, performing about 80 T & G, using white lines at an 8 deg angle painted on the deck..

Here we can replicate this with the former HMS Venerable, (with some imagination).

The prime reason for the angled deck was to prevent the type of accidents seen in the previous screenie by Pappy2. If you miss the wires you just go round.

First attempt.

I was suprised when the wires actually worked.

The idea was offered to the USN who reluctantly tried the idea of painting the lines on the 45000 ton USS Midway.

It was such a success that the Essex class carrier, USS Antietam, was converted with an angled deck in 1952 and was the first carrier to have a true angled deck. .

Recreating the 8 deg. Angled Flight Deck trials on USS Midway in 1952

Lines painted on deck and T/G only, to prove concept.

HMS Collossus, (straight deck) and Arromanches, (angled deck), both operated Corsairs.

I found that Essex style approaches weren't working for me so a slightly different style of curve, maintaining altitude so I could keep visual on the angle, cracked it.

overshoot the centre line, maintain alt.

Keep speed up AOA low for a good view of the deck.

Excellent example of a controlled landing, "Holbeach."
I can't manage that yet; my Corsair often stalls during the turn.

Which aircraft carrier with a sloped flight deck did you use in your footage?

Should be the "ARA Veinticinco de Mayo" from the Argentinian Asset Pack which came with South Atlantic map but I think this is available for all.

As gulredrel says, it's the Argentine carrier, ex HMS Venerable, part of the 1942 Light Carrier class. (Collossus

I've been almost exclusively on daily Carrier practice, since the Corsair came out, so hopefully I'm half decent at it, but stalling on the final part of the turn is the most common failure.

It's good practice for when the Pacific pack comes out, hopefully in my lifetime.

No working Cat, but you can still get offwith a couple of bombs and full tanks.
