Any idea why they went from Bearcats to Corsairs?

Versatility, range and ground attack capability I think.

Keep in mind Bearcat was a very highly specialized one trick pony, fantastic at point interception task but mediocre or downright bad at everything else, with flimsy structure and low G-limits taking the cake.

Sturdy and proven Corsairs with greater payload and range were simply better all-around warplanes for any hard and dirty job. There's a reason they were in active service up till early '60s.

As a whole it didn't leave a very lasting impression, except perhaps for one scene which I told my wife was one of the most accurate depictions of aviation that I've seen in a big budget Hollywood movie.

When they were transitioning to the Corsair, there was a short montage scene where the pilots spent hours studying the POH and memorizing the procedures, into the night long after their spouses had gone to bed.

It was a welcome and stark contrast to the newer Top Gun movie where the pilots are all cringey, smirkey overconfident blowhards and the scene where Maverick introduces himself to the team and tosses the F-18 "flying manual" into a trash can.
