You need to have the format changed during gameplay, not needed for installation.

 

It doesen't change the language, just how windows shows somethings (date format for example). It's dumb and I hope ED corrects it ASAP, but for the moment it just changes that (it doesen't change keyboard layout, etc etc)

Okey, well then I'm not patching. As you said, it's "dumb" and while I suspect there's some intricate system-logic reason behind this requirement it is... well... dumb. I've run into something like this only once since I first installed Windows 95, and that was when a publisher sent me the wrong beta code for an article. You should not be forced to alter things like this for an internationally distributed version. (It's something else with requiring that german version be run on a german OS or whatever was going on there, that I can understand to protect distributor shares.)

 

The english way of handling dates, times and so on is the complete antithesis of what I use every day and I will not go in there to change it every time I play with the sim. And while I can understand the english date/time format I will not inconvenience myself every day for those times when I have time to play with the simulator.

 

Please ED, fix that.

 

Or someone make a new function for DCSMax that swaps date/time format back and forth automatically. :D

I hate this feature of 1.0.1 patch. :( It is all about system locale. Game gets system locale at startup and then searches for files according to locale. Some examples: if your locale is Russian, then game looks for AboutCredits_ru.txt, if your locale is Lithuanian - it looks for AboutCredits_lt.txt and etc. If you don't have the right file, error pops up.

 

2 fixes available: change system locale (to be precise: "Language for non Unicode programs") to one, whose files are available with your Ka-50 installation (I won't do that) or try to substitute the required files. Simply open LUA file (mentioned in error message) and scroll to line with error. In that line you will find file name. Look for this file and rename its copy so, that its name will end with locale code. For example: if you have Russian version, then you will find AboutCredits_ru.txt, and if you have Lithuanian as system locale, then you rename the copy to AboutCredits_lt.txt (ru -> lt) and that is it. Do the same to the all files, because of which you get errors.

 

Oh, and game still can't read file listing in unicode. It means that if directory contains files, whose names are with characters from multiple languages, game will hang trying to read that directory. :(

I don't have this problem (I have an English system with an English copy of DCS), but maybe its worth trying the AppLocale utility from Microsoft. Here is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx

 

Even if the particular utility does not work, maybe something similar is possible...

Well, to be honest, I won't be running any extra anything to be able to patch. I barely fly online and the sim is real stable anyway, so I don't need the patch.

 

It's just a shame that this happened since some features of the patch would have been nice to have, but not worth a hazzle. (Would have been different if ED hadn't been so good with making sure the original product was solid. ;) )

 

So well, this seems like a bit of a blooper ED, but thanks for being the one developer that makes version 1.0.0 stable enough for me to not flinch about keeping it for a while. :)

Ok! thats completely ok.......knowing my little patience in that kind of things I try to deactivate my lovely starforce and....

 

Unable to deactivate the product license due to significant changes of the computer hardware configuration. Only valid licenses can be deactivated.

To obtain an error report and send it to product technical support, press the corresponding button.

 

So instead to deactivate I try to get a new activation key and thats what i get.....

 

For activation, submit specified Serial Number and Hardware Code to the activation site proactive.star-force.com/2.0/activate.php during one day. The activation site will create a personal Activation Key for you.

 

whats the meaning of this? I have to wait 24hs to get my new activation key?

Why? only for aplying the patch over my dcs version?

All is fine for me with the patch.....after 4 hours of work !!!!

 

First, I have totally erase my BS and Modman.

I have then reinstalled BS, after that set my computer with UK geographic location and finally installed the patch.

All is working

 

Now I have to install Modman and my previous Add-On...And go again for some test.

Evidently they are some trouble with the beautiful sharkpit add-on....

I have the same situation like stated above. Registration is lost after changing the System locale and installing the patch.

Another rego lost at my end with my Russian install as follows-

 

OK I did clean installs on both my PC's. The english install and patching went fine without any problem.

 

The Russian install though that I use on my server PC failed to run. I read some stuff here and changed my region format to russian, which allowed me to get past the initial error, but now I dont get english menus any more, and when I tried to test loading with instant action mission I was directed to the CD key entry page, so i guess the change of format smoked another activation? Currently DCS reports my Russian key as invalid? My English install never asked for CD key on re-install, and my Russian one did not either until I changed to format.

 

I think this "format" or region issue could be resolved, by an option of ED sending legit RUS ver owners an English key, or a Hotfix patch plus restoration of existing key.

My advice for ED.

Correct the problems of "Format" and "Activations Lost" of the patch 1.0.1 and release the patch 1.0.2. substitute for 1.0.1

 

Rectify in time is of wise people

 

 

Agree 100%, and an official word from ED would be great. Is it going to be fixed? soon? Shall we wait to download and patch?

¡Great! I have the next situation:

 

One PC - Two SO in their own partition

 

- W7 spanish with russian DVD BS

- Vista spanish with russian on-line downloaded version

 

And I have to set my Vista and W7 format parameter in russian??

 

Oh.. no.. maybe wait to the correct fix of the patch.

 

ED can't release a patch that you have to be nuclear engineer to install it ;)

Only a small question for ED (without malice)

 

Do you have sent the patch to "beta testers" team a few days earlier so that tested it and detect this type of installation failures?

 

If you have a computer so broad and willing to collaborate, be used to avoid these mistakes. A user who is not very fan, feels this as a radical failure.. Fans are more understanding... but we hurts see ED be a little "fixes" :-p
