Has anyone else experienced the Corsair's engine just...shutting off mid-flight?

I've seen it happen a few times. Most recently was last night:

  • All temps were in the Green.
  • Cowl flaps, oil cooler, and intercooler doors were open.
  • Plenty of gas left in the tank.
  • Fuel mixture on Auto-Lean.
  • I was in a shallow climb under Normal power so it couldn't have been from overspeeding the prop.

And the engine just died. What's more, there was no entry for the engine failure in the combat logs (which happens when the engine fails due to damage).

Not really.  I did have my engine cut out once, but I had forgotten to open my cowl flaps and the cylinders overheated.  I didn't notice the needle pegged to the right, deep in the red.

You need to switch to reserve tank once you have some 60 gallons or so left. I've had this happen a few times.

Ah, that could have been it. I was flying with reduced fuel and fight have gotten below that.

Don't hold me to the 60gal limit. I know if I use half a tank. I got maybe 15-20 minutes of high power use before the engine quit and I need to select reserve tank. I know you aren't very far down the "left side of the fuel gauge" gauge before it happens. But I don't remember right now if it's 60, 50 or 40 gallons it happens.
