HI,

i am wondering why the afterburner, when taking off, looks like a huge fireball ? Is this a setting or something else...

It looks more like the rear end is on fire if u ask me.

Kind regards,

RWC.

Bad LOD and/or heat blur effect.

The rear end seemingly being on fire is not necessarily unrealistic, though:

Hi Raven, as i watched the vid , it STILL looks like a nice rounded cone, if u ask me. Not the whimpering flagged fireball i see on the DCS jet exhausts. Have a closer look when you fly at night or dawn when you see an AI aircraft taking off before you...... ridiculous it looks.

Oh I agree it looks odd on your screenshot. I was just referring your description of a "huge fireball". It doesn't look like that on my end, though.
Perhaps clearing shader cache (both DCS ones and the driver ones) might fix it? Alternatively you could try a different LOD setting as Draconus suggested.

I said it's probably bad LOD model in game. I have the setting on max and it does not help.

I checked your track in both pancake mode and in VR, and you're right: it looks the same on my end. It looks like Draconus was spot on: it definitely looks like a bad LOD model which then interacts strangely with heat blur.
When the aircraft are about 450m away, the effect disappears and things go back to normal.

I've tried to repair but didn't help, and I don't have any other mods than CH and Admirals mods. I'm glad to hear it's not just on my end. Thanks !

It definitely isn’t just you. I haven’t seen it before so I guess it must be rather recent - but I also admit it’s been a minute since I flew anything fixed wing (except for a short hop in the Corsair right after launch).

It's been like that for a while. Can't remember if a whole year though.
