Uninstalled and Rebooted PC. Installed DCS: Black Shark UK DVD. Placed patch in Root Folder and immediately patched prior to running 1.0

Installation window confirmed Install of Patch successfully completed: Win7 begged to differ.............

Not knowing how to troubleshoot, decided to choose Option #2 (hopin' it would be the lesser of two evils)..........

Opened the SP GUI and hit 'Instant Action'............

When Installing anything on Vista or 7, Right Click and Run as Administrator.

Applies to all programs.

Otherwise Win may block the Installer from modifying the Registry.

Hope this will help for next time.

Please, take a look at my post and if you get it to work, let us all know. I'm really thinking of installing 7.

Hm. That first install may have required some more permission by the looks of it - I never got that "application compatability, installed correctly?" on either of my Win 7 machines with the 1.0.1 patch.

Both mine are running "default" security setup out of the box (RC1 and RTM).

I've had one similar incident earlier on another Win 7 testmachine, while testing some security changes (pre 1.0.1), so I was curious why it indicated that the activation was missing - so I studied it a bit more.

What I have discovered is the location of the keys (starforce) might be looking for - if it can't find the

"HKCU\Wow3264\Software\Eagle Dynamics\Blackshark" (notice the Wow3264 path there for x64 systems - 32 bit systems dont use it) it then goes to check (and create) the

"HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Eagle Dynamics\Blackshark"

So if you have tweaked your compatability in any way starforce might be confused and look in the wrong place - and require a new activation.

See if you can find those registry keys and copy (export, edit and import) them into a position where starforce will be (enforce by Vista/Win7 compatability system) looking.

I am one of the *probable* few that are classified as 'Computer Illiterate'......Hell, the first P.C I ever owned was late 2005 and a PC World 'Over the Counter' special to Boot!

And whilst i have made steady inroads in broadening my knowledge of all things PC'erish, at my Age things tend to take a while to stick.....That said - Win7 RC1 Default installation with no attendant tweaking (compatibility) at all. Honestly would not know where to begin.....

And about the 'Administrator' thing.........yeah, admittedly did not attend to that. Then again, had no idea it would apply. Had no problems Pre-Patch with installation.

As regards to performance - yet to test thoroughly. A session of Midget-Tossing will no doubt highlight any errors, User or otherwise :D

Yeah, I would definitely want to know your specs and your minimum FPS on the Panzer midget server (lol?)

Pick Viper and check FPS inside the cockpit at the start, then turn 180, where there's lots of units, FPS?

Please post the results.

(P.S.: In case you didnt know how to check FPS: RightCtrl+Pause/Break)

Thanks!

Vipers Win 7 problem

I have begun to notice after having install many programs some legacy 32bit & some 64bit compatible. That Win 7 is more the issue here than anything else. It seems to me that Win 7 might have a problem with detecting true 64bit apps for some reason.

I have gotten the compatibillty screen more than once and feel it is more a Windows OS problem.

It seems to wants to install alot of programs that don't register true 64bit apps or something! in the compatibility program folder (X86), then you have an access problem with some files placed in different compatibiliity file structure.

This seems to be my problem with access to some files. I am looking into it more with win 7 64bit (build 7100) though, not DCS or any other app.

any thoughts or experiences on this would be good, for I think others are running into this issue as well.

Hi,

Set the main Regional Setting to Russian, then install the update.

I did this on XP and it works fine! Once it is installed and running under Russian setting, you can then set it back to English and all will be well.

It seems to me that Win 7 might have a problem with detecting true 64bit apps for some reason.
No - for the Windows Compatibility thing to work, it has to think the app was installed. If for some reason that doesn't occur, it can think there was a problem, when in fact there wasn't.

As for recomendations - if you dont use your PC over internet, it's perfectly okai to disable UAC. If you do use your computer for browsing - use UAC.

If you do disable it, do it temporarely - and reenable it later.
