Virpil Flnkr / Moza AB9 compatibility.

Howdy folks,

I just picked up the Virpil Flnkr grip to use with my Moza AB9 base. Going into this, I knew there would be some compatibility issues based on posts I had read. For the most part, the grip is amazing, and at the end of the day, I can live with some of the missing features and funky issues. I had also reached out to Moza's support team to get some additional information, but that has since gone unanswered.

To get to the point of this post, are these issues a result of hardware limitations, or is this something that Moza can address in a future firmware update?

To others interested in using the Flnkr with the AB9, here is what you should expect/know based on my experience:

  • You have to switch the Moza Cockpit profile to one of the other Virpil sticks, like the Alpha. Before doing this, I had a few buttons not being recognized, but after switching the profile, they were good to go.
  • Swapping to the 4-way hat switches is very finicky and has a tendency to pick up the incorrect directional input when pressing it (i.e., you push up and it activates the down input).
  •  The thumb joystick axis is not recognized, and presumably the pinky trigger axis as well, although I have not tested it yet.
  • The lights don't work on a foreign base (as far as I can tell).

Some of these issues could very well be a result of something I'm doing wrong, and any feedback/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

At the end of the day, I am still very happy with my purchase and have already enjoyed a good few hours using it. If you are thinking about picking one up and the above does not phase you, I highly encourage you to pull the trigger!

Ps. When I purchased the stick, it was on backorder; it only took about a week to get delivered, so don't let the backorder status influence your decision too much.

Have a great day all!

Should be, as other devs seems to easily support all TM/Virpil compatible grips.

For the axes, have you tried recalibration of them using the Moza software?  That worked for my Alpha Prime.

I now have the tumbstick working; however, I can only bind it to Horizontal or Vertical slew (for the Kiowa's MMS camera) as it's only being recognized as a singular axis, if that makes sense. Once bound, I lose all control over the camera as it spins round and round.

Sometimes - that was my scenario - the joystick grips comes from factory with wrong settings for analogue axles, and require correction/calibration in Virpil software so You should have also the Virpil base (or borrow one) to do it prior to connecting the grip to the Moza base.

I don't have a Virpil base, but I threw it on my collective while running the Virpil software, no luck.

I am not sure if You are aware, so I'll ask if after calibrating the axle, you center all of them before you save the settings?
I know that thumb stick is centering itself by default, but this is the only reason of such strange behaviour that comes to my mind...

No joy, the only thing the thumbstick is doing is causing the mast to spin continuously, the buttons with that can be swapped between two and four-way hats are the most finicky on the stick, they do not have axis.
