G'day,

I was hoping to free up some SSD space by removing some modules.

I went through the module manager installed tab option, and check marked the modules I wanted to remove entirely. Then clicked the "Delete selected".

The modules no longer appear in module manager under the installed tab, but the files are still on the SSD. How do I get the files off my SSD to free up space without breaking DCS?

Thanks

Hi,

that sounds odd,

can you attach your autoupdate_log.txt and your dcs log, we can look for clues.

thank you

G'day BigNewy,

I have included some screenshots also.

Launcher Screenshot 2025-08-16 070050.jpg shows that modules removed from the list and flagged in the "Available" button.

Launcher a Screenshot 2025-08-16 070144.jpg shows the available modules for install.

DCS start a Screenshot 2025-08-16 070533.jpg shows 4 modules flagged available for install by the red 4 over the modules button on the start screen.

DCS start Screenshot 2025-08-16 070412.jpg shows modules that are available to install after DCS is started.

Even though the files are still in their install directories, a selected module is redownloaded again.

Also Is there any way to remove the install prompt for just those particular modules? I don't want it to effect other modules such as the soon to be released C130 for example.

Thanks for your assistance with this issue. 👍

Correct removal of modules.zip

Hi, BrassEm.

How much giga bytes do you want to reduce in uninstalling jet modules ?
Each of those jet modules use 2 or 3 giga bytes.
Even the four modules are uninstalled correctly, new free disk space maybe only 10 giga bytes.
Those free space / used size can be checked by Windows default explorer's indicator or its folder properties.
Uninstalling airplane modules is not so effective to get free disk space.

Bigger disk spaces are required by terrain modules.
Old terrains Nevada or Persian Gulf use around 30 giga bytes for each.
Current developing terrains (Afghanistan / Iraq / Kola / CWG) use from 80 giga bytes to 160 giga bytes.

Uninstalling a terrain module will give you bigger free space easily ...

Modules: A-10C/II, F-4E, F-5E(Re), F-14A/B, F-15E, F-16C, F/A-18C, AV-8B, FC3, Ka-50-2/3, UH-1H, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, Mi-24P, AH-64D, CH-47F, P-51D, F4U-1D
Maps: Nevada, PG, Syria, SA, Sinai, Kola, Afghanistan, Iraq, CW Germany, Channel, Normandy2.0      Assets etc.: CA, Sc, WW2AP
Mods and Skins in User Files: files/filter/user-is-western0221/

As western_JPN correctly points out, uninstalling aircratft doesn't free up much space. Modules are split into two main folders in DCS; Mods, where all the gameplay related parts (DLLs, cockpit models, LUAs etc.) of the modules you have installed are stored, and CoreMods, where all the 3d models and textures for every DCS aircraft, owned/installed or not, are stored. You can delete stuff from CoreMods, but it will be reinstalled every time you update DCS.

As an example, my coremods/aircraft folder is twice the size of mods/aircraft, and I have every module installed except the MB-339, F4E, F-15E and the new FC:
