It has an integrated digital autopilot, part of the Lockheed Martin/L3Harris Flight Management System (FMS). The C-130J's autopilot is a Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS), which interfaces with the inertial navigation system, GPS, and EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System) displays.

The C-130J's main autopilot capabilities include:

  • Three-axis control (roll, pitch, yaw).
  • Heading, altitude, speed, and climb/descent maintenance.
  • Integrated navigation modes (including LNAV – lateral navigation, VNAV – vertical navigation).
  • Flight management system (FMS) compatibility, allowing for automatic execution of routes programmed in the on-board computer.
  • Approaches using ILS (Instrument Landing System) and GPS.
  • Coupled Approach mode (autopilot guides the aircraft along the approach path).

By the way, I hope that all FMC functions will be assignable and open. There are several products on the sim market that offer FMC panels, and this way, the user will be able to operate them in their home cockpit.

When we are dealing with FMS one of the most important items would be navigation database. While in MSFS we have been using Navigraph for years, I am not sure what are the plans for this on this tittle. Most aircrafts that we do have in DCS until now did not used such kind of navigational databases. it is true that we do not have too many airports to service compared with MSFS numbers but still I do not think this has an easy solution in DCS, so I am eagerly looking forward to see how the development team has approached this
