anthonye Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Why when trying to taxi off runway or trying to land on grass, the helo stops dead like it has hit a wall and is glued to the ground. Brakes are off and speed is about 2knots forward, shakes and toples over and blows up. Is this a bug, as you know Helo's can land off concrete or solid surface. Anthony
Spartan1-1 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 The trick is not to taxi. If your going to land off of a paved surface than minimize any lateral movement and touch down with 0 speed. If you have to taxi off pavement than use a little collective to reduce the load on the undercarriage. Practice this and it works. Also be real gentle when landing on uneven ground. Touch the wheels down and slowly add load to them by smoothly reducing collective. Boulund Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I think the reason that the helo stops dead is because it's a very heavy object standing on only three small wheels and on softer ground types like grass etc it just probably settles into the ground and gets stuck ;) Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. Feuerfalke Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 That is correct. You get stuck with your car offroad, because the weight will sink the small tires into the ground. Now imagine you have only 3 wheels, but 10 times the weight. The bouncing is a bug though, IMHO. It does not occur when landing, most of the time, but when taking off, at some point you will be bouncing off the ground and most likely crash. It happened to me when I landed near an airfield in an area that even looked like concrete. As soon as I touched down, I was bounced up, about twice the height of the hangar I was landing at and came down on my rotors. MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD
Tango Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Whilst the ground is bumpy, the sim is rediculously sensitive. A slight bounce has the helicopter on its side, breaking the gear etc, even if you descended very gently onto the ground. It is not representitive of ground handling on rough ground at all. Best regards, Tango.

Kenan Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Yup. When you try to take off from grass, even if you do it as gently as possible, you may suddenly explode which is IMO a bit of an overkill. It's bit too scripted for my taste. BTW, would have been nice if the patch actually enabled AI units to land elswhere, not only on runways and heliports. Aside from that, 1.0.1 introduced some nice improvements. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commanding Officer of: 2nd Company 1st financial guard battalion "Mrcine" See our squads here and our .
