oCMANo Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Noticed my engine dying after a steep dive and large speed gain when I'd try and climb again. Have been keeping the cowl flaps open about 20% at all times to avoid the CYL Temps overheating, but it appears that if you get enough speed it pushes the flaps stay closed? F4U1D didn't have any automated flap management or hydraulics to re-open them? Guess it's on the pilot to remember to re-open flaps after going above 300 knots or cook your engine? The flaps were designed to be able to blow closed if you exceeded their airspeed limits.

Correct, this one gets me every now and then as well. I’m getting better about it. Follow the dive checklist from the POH prior to entering the dive, and it has you consciously close them, which helps to remember to reopen them after the dive is complete. 2 1 My DCS Missions: Band of Buds series | The End of the T-55 Era | Normandy PvP | Host of the Formation Flight Challenge server Supercarrier Reference Kneeboards IRL: Private Pilot, UAS Test Pilot, Aircraft Designer, and... eh hem... I do ... practice them a lot on training first ... what's the point of having an accurate simulation if then we go and pilot the aircraft like it were a car? 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
