Waren Vielist - power lines near RWY06 threshold: 4. Weser Wumme - power lines on RWY01 approach: Correct as is. Edited 21 hours ago by Minsky Weser Wumme removed 2 2 Dima | My DCS uploads
Volator Posted yesterday at 06:48 AM Posted yesterday at 06:48 AM For Weser-Wuemme though, the power lines in the approach sector of RWY01 are in fact correct, and looking at Google Maps (I am not familiar with that airfield in RL), the same thing applies to Waren-Vielist RWY06. 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven

Their GIS data probably just says "power line here" without specifying the type. Maybe IRL the poles are much smaller than these? Dima | My DCS uploads
drPhibes Posted yesterday at 03:44 PM Posted yesterday at 03:44 PM (edited) They are 110kV "Donaumasten" (Danube towers/masts), which are typically around 25m tall. Edited 23 hours ago by drPhibes
Volator Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Just checked the RL approach chart for Weser-Wuemme EDWM, it shows the powerline masts with a height of 180ft, about 50m. It also looks more like a 220KV mast. 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
drPhibes Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago 50m seems abough right according to my flying tape measure: 2
Minsky Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago The masts at Waren Vielist are certainly not Danube-type, but something considerably shorter. They also located further from the threshold than in DCS (1800 ft vs 1400 ft). The masts near Hasselfelde are indeed Danubes (160 ft / 50 m tall in DCS). But that powerline passes way closer to the in-game threshold than it does in reality (1600 ft vs 3200 ft), so it looks more threatening than it should. Weser Wumme seems correct both in terms of mast type and threshold distance, so I'll remove it from the report. 2 Dima | My DCS uploads
Minsky Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago The optimal solution would be to manually move power lines further from thresholds (easier than moving airfields themselves or adding another mast type). 1 Dima | My DCS uploads
Bremspropeller Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Came to DCS for playing a combat flight simulator and ended up learning about types of power lines and their pylons. Life takes interesting corners sometimes 1 So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!
