TeddyThePilot Posted October 1 Posted October 1 (edited) According to the DCS WORLD documentation, HELM reticles can display various modes: continuous ring and crosshairs, as well as flashing rings, and broken rings and crosshairs. In game we see this broken lines too, they must be solid The Shchel-3UM device has only two possible types of markers ( only solid, no broken lines and rings): - two concentric solid rings of the reticle - solid crosshair of the signal mark. And Both markers can either flash, glow continuously and off. The rest of the views are different combinations of these two markers and glow, flashing and no display modes. I also attach the found images of two markers (rings and crosshair ) and combination of both, "Шель-3УМ НВУ2"( Shchel-3UM NVU2 ) photos from some owner of the HELM. 1. Aim mark Спойлер 2.Signal mark Спойлер 3.Aim and Signal mark Спойлер So no broken lines must be in aim and signal mark as described in module docs in game marks behavior Edited 17 hours ago by TeddyThePilot Update 1 1 70+ DCS World modules. AeriaGloria Posted October 1 Posted October 1 If you watch my latest video, I let out the symbology differences much clearer 1 Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
Vatikus Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Broken line in documentation actually indicates 2Hz flashing and not that we see broken line 4

It's just that the sight is structurally made so that there are two prisms with stencil and a backlight patch ( source from google open patents),so only two stencil for marks. Спойлер Description from Mig-29B (export version), public available on internet and almost some post about HMD in the forum has images of fragments from this doc and other, like open patents can clarify it. Спойлер Спойлер Спойлер Спойлер Спойлер So, there are only two marks: - signal mark in the form of a solid cross - aiming mark consisting of two solid concentric rings Some Illumination modes: constant burning, flashing at a frequency of 2 Hertz and off. All other types of sights are a combination of the marks of sights themselves and the backlight mode. The "Щ-3УМ НВУ2М" (Schel-3UM NVU2M) were previously used, as can be seen from the old videos in the GDR, but HMD in the module is similar to the "СУРА" (SURA) HMD (the development of the Щ-3УМ, but after the collapse of the USSR), or some kind of late soviet modification like sight НВУ-7 (NVU-7). All this was done at the "Arsenal" plant in Kiev. And the principle of marks formation has not changed much. Lyrode Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Sounds legit to show flashing as broken lines in manual, though devs are messed lol
AeriaGloria Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago It would just be easier for the headset collimator. Only needing to show 2 symbols rather then an additional piece to make it 4. Schmidtfire Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago (edited) Very interesting and rare photos of the real HELM! Have you forwarded those to the DCS MIG-29 developers? On an esthetic note. It looks like the symbology is less yellow and more orange in color (closer to what MI-24P sight looks like). HELM symbology in DCS also looks a bit small in comparison to the real life pictures. Edit: Seems like Adrián Caparzo nailed the HELM look in this trailer: Edited 22 hours ago by Schmidtfire

Schmidtfire Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago For a symbology color comparison. DCS MIG-29 left. HELM symbology (from owner) center, DCS MIG-15bis right. Perhaps I'm being a bit nitpicky, but it's a clear difference in color (if the center picture is authentic).
