It was always like that in VR. Same with fire and contrails.

Yes and they turn on and off depending on where you look, and they render differently (or not at all) in the left/right eye.

It's either omission or wrong implementation.

Interestingly it reacts to left/right and up/down view change but not for lateral head tilt.

You can see the effect also in HL:Alyx.

And if you enable dynamic foveated rendering, even more weirdness happens. I do hope these issues can be fixed…

These effects are made with 2D sprites. Their axis are locked with the rendering POV (player's camera), or you would see even weirder things like cardboard effect.

The alternative is full volumetric effects on everything like the clouds are. But a number of people would maybe lose VR capability as it would become more expensive. Like this:

No. It can never go away. It is the rendering characteristics. If you felt that it went away it is because you didn't face it for a while.

Let's also remember ED is not MS in size.

Slightly related; Those smoke coloumns shows one of the the most obvious visual quality difference between Reverb and Pimax.
In Pimax' they look absolutely stunning.

Afaik only clouds and fog is volumetric. All the rest are sprites so weirdly connected to camera angle.
