"launch permission" sound, but it is not be able to launch missiles.

Once the radar locks on, if the enemy aircraft is unlocked, a tone " launch permission" will be emitted, and the HUD will switch to IR mode. However, the missile just won't launch.

IR missiles do have a lock range, but I’m sure you know that

There's a discussion in another thread about it:

I believe your text implies it (HUD will switch to IR mode), but just to confirm it relates to IR-missiles only.

Also in my case I do hear the missile tone, but I don't see LA/PR (launch authorization symbols on the HUD) and I don't hear voice message (Launch, launch / Pusk razreshen) and accordingly I'm not able to launch no matter how many times I press the launch button and what position Prepare switch is.

I'm pretty sure I faced F-15/F-18 screaming towards me with burner (so within these distances you posted above), but still wasn't able to launch somehow.

What tone from the missile notifies the pilot about?

According to DCS it can mean being in range or missile locked. I previously thought it wouldn’t only mean being both in range and missile authorized to launch (Fox 2 locked or Fox 1 sending ready signal)
