How plug and play is Pimax?

Hi everyone, I am interested in upgrading to a Pimax headset, but how hassle-free is it? Do you get a good experience out of it with just installing the software and adjusting a few performance parameters, or is it a matter of installing 17 unofficial mods and hacks that will break quite often and don't really allow to jump into your VR seat without issues whenever you feel like?

I'm still using a Reverb G2. I did not upgrade, not for price or technical reasons, but just because it works flawlessly, including sound and mic, for a couple of years now and I don't want to invest too much time in tweaking stuff... When I have time for hobbying I just want to fly stuff

Sziasztok!

I also switched from G2, I suffered a lot with the HP device. I have an RTX 3090Ti VGA card, which the G2 does not work properly with. Nvidia sent me a free HDMI amplifier, which worked, but I had to unplug the power and plug it back in many times.

With this, Pimax is completely problem-free for me. I bought it at the beginning of the year, installed its software and it has been working practically ever since.

Oh! Thanks for your feedback. That's interesting, my G2 works flawless with an EVGA RTX 3090

Do you have a Crystal Super? Does all the good stuff (foveated rendering with eye tracking) work out of the box in DCS?

Switched from a G2 to a 50PPD Super and I am happy. There are still a few teething problems, and the tracking could sometimes be a little better, but it works largely without any issues. Various display issues during night flights have not yet been resolved, but with a few workarounds, you can get a good handle on them. However, these are all software-related issues and not hardware-related, so I'm confident that Pimax will get them sorted out. Overall, I don't regret the switch and would do it again anytime.

I have a Pimax Crystal Light headset, I love it 🙂

Mine is a GIGABYTE GV-N309TGAMING OC-24GD GeForce RTX 3090 Ti 24GB GDDR6X VGA card. There is no problem with the "plain" 3090, only with the 3090 Ti and the problem is not unique, many have struggled with this.

My Super UW works nicely out of the box with the default Pimax software. However! 🙂  2 pieces of external soft, concretely MB Quadviews and Quad Views Companion make the experience much better as Pimax own Quad Views window lacks "transition thickness" which makes the eye tracking box stand out like a sore thumb - I see the edge between the high res foveated region and the low res surround. With the QV Companion eye tracking is almost seamless as this transition is gradual.

Regarding the display issue during night flights, are you referring to the bloom?

Yes for me.  Same issue...hazy glow from all light sources, only in headset.  Flat screen monitor does not have the glow.

As I already mentioned in another post, the graphics don't fit at sunrise or sunset. The clouds have artifacts, which can be fixed by changing the brightness slider in PP once and then resetting it. Then it looks normal again.

In addition, the images are sometimes pitch black and brighten up again after a few seconds.

Noted. But can't whether this can be addressed through software, such as adjusting the panel’s default brightness.

A word or two must be missing.  Are you referring to the hazy glow (bloom) effect around the light sources during DCS and Falcon BMS night flights?  And that Pimax isn't taking action to alleviate this problem?  TIA
