Guest CastleBravo Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Whenever I insert the disk into my computer and click install on the startup screen, my whole system freezes. My computer meets all of the requirements and I turned off my antivirus, but I have no idea what is going on... I tried it on a different computer as well and it did the same thing. Do you think that this is a problem with the disk or what?
Panzertard Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) To test a computer with minimal software running - you can start it in "Safe Mode" (use F8 during pre-windows startup). - If the installation runs fine this time (it may complain about other things, but it may start installing) - then you need to keep looking for software issues at the computer. - If the install still freeze up, then you may be looking at a DVD disk issue. (or DVD reader issue). Note, if the installation succeded under SAfe Mode - it may still be a bit "shady", because not all your Windows Services were running - the game itself may work very strangly if you test it. The Safe Mode trick is just a method to differenciate between software issues and hardware (media) issues - you shouldnt trust the install that has been done - instead you need to investigate the results you get from that test. Reason for query is as follows: On XP and Vista, whenever I attended to a clean install, the first 'dialogue' that appeared was the 'Verifying Installer' message that appeared and ran through from 1-100% prior to commencing the installation process. Now this took a while, akin to the process when Installing FC on LockOn 1.0. Cannot establish the exact time, but my PC is by no means a Dinosaur, so it could take a little longer on older PC's to verify the installer. Since switching to Win7, I found that not only did I not get the 'Verifying Installer' message any more, but it also took a wee bit longer for the Verification to actually run in the backround (assuming that is what is happening) prior to the start of the installation process. As a consequence I also thought that my PC had frozen.......Turns out I just had to wait a while - the installation commences in due course. Could be indicative of what you are experiencing - Just pop the disc in, leave it a while and see what happens. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career?
