DikiDino Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I have the following. Intel E8500 processor O/C to 3.7Ghz P45 Chipset Mobo 2 x 2GB RAM EVGA GTX260 Core 216 864MB DDR3 RAM Creative X-Fi sound card Window XP 32-bits Currently i'm only getting like about 20's+. Is this normal?
sobek Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 No this is not normal, what are your ingame video settings? ps: consider getting vista, it improves performance by up to 20 fps in dcs Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
DikiDino Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Actually i do have Vista as i dual boot. I dont use it much unless the game support DX10. Bought the Vista only for DX10. How stupid i am. LOL BTW, DCS support Vista? Gonna try that tonight.
sobek Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) Yes but your question is still valid. Try in vista and don't forget to NOT set water to high, this is the biggest fps killer AFAIK. Your system should be able to handle everything else on high. Mine does at least. edit: forgot to mention that i run on an e8400@3.6GHz Edited September 16, 2009 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. DikiDino Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Oh ya, i do have everything on max setting. BTW, there's a setting where i can set the shrvkal *spelling?* to 1024 every frame. Will this kill my FPS too?
sobek Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 To some degree, if you do not use a separate monitor for the shkval, 512 will be enough by a large margin. Also i do not find it necessary to render it every frame, but that is my preference. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Feuerfalke Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Framerates are not only depending on your ingame settings. While I would tune down your cockpit resolution to 512 for performance reasons, you should also consider the resolution you are running and the quality settings. e.g. if you use your 260er for a monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200 and have anti-aliasing and anisotrophic filtering cranked up to the max, you won't even notice much difference if you tune down your ingame settings to all lowest values. If you run the game on lower resolutions with these low FPS-ratings, you should take a look at your ingame graphics settings and reconfirm the FULL SCREEN-option is enabled. Besides that, as posted before: Vista has native multicore and multiprocessor-support and is therefore better suited for processor-intensive applications like DCS. I honestly doubt that he is bottlenecked by THIS gfx card, i have an hd 4850 and run at 1680*1050 with all the bells and whistles and i'm still cpu-bound. The full screen mode toggle is a good tip though. And dont forget to deactivate your install before you switch to vista or you'll lose one activation. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. The full screen mode toggle is a good tip though. And dont forget to deactivate your install before you switch to vista or you'll lose one activation. That depends a lot on what you call "with all the bells and whistles". My previous card was a 8800GTS, overclocked and with 640MB memory. With Vista 64bit, 1920x1200x32bit and 8xAF + 8xFSAA I had 30-35 FPS, with 16xAF I dropped below 20-25FPS as soon as I closed in on a city or airfield. When I switched to my GTX285 my FPS in BS almost trippled with the same PC and same settings, even the same driver. What are your AF and AA settings? sobek Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 12*edge detect FSAA and 4*AF i think, but i tried higher and saw no change. With higher res, the impact will be greater of course. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
DikiDino Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 My Desktop resolution is 1680x1050. I have AA and AF set to application controlled. The rest is the default nvidia setting in the control panel. I also have the patch 1.01a. Now installing BS on my Vista OS. BTW, how do i deactivate it?

Under these circumstances you will most likely see a noteable increase in FPS when you switched to Vista. Would be nice if you can update us on your findings. sobek Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) hi, hint: lower screen size = more fps, increase screen size = lower fps.. Who would have ever thought of THAT? Like ever? Like ever ever? If today is the state the obvious day, i wanna have a run too. I look good and am way too smart for my age. No wait, it has to be true, right? DikiDino Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Ok, just came back after installation on Vista. Had a test run using the same training mission as i run on XP 32bits. All setting, i just click on the default High which automatically set the setting for me. On XP-32Bit, i'm getting 25 to 30fps when just looking at the cockpit. Its the Cockpit instruction videw btw. On Vista Home Premium-64bits, i'm getting 42 to 49fps. Wow, suddenly i feel like my Vista purchase is worth it. I mean, bought it about a year ago and suddenly feel that its worth it. LOL So far everything seems smooth. Ok, the only "Diff" which i have to be frank is that on my XP, i installed Shark Pit 2.0A which is the latest version that support BS 1.01. On my vista, i never install the shark pit.
Spider76 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 OT: my knowledge maintaining vista in good shape: im only using ccleaner & avira antiriv software daily basis. since 12.08.2008 i build my pc (new hardware all) i havent have any bsod with my vista ultimate. and i use daily my pc 6-14 hours per day.. so hope 4 your good life along with ur vista :-) ::ASRock 4Core1333::Intel Quad Q6600 2.4 GHZ::OCZ DDR2 Reaper HPC Edition 4 GB::Club3D 9800GT 1GB Green Edition::Acer LCD 19":: Nexus 400W::Vista Ultimate SP2::Saitek X36F & X35T Joystick::Youtube::Spider´s Channel::Suomi-Finland :-) ::

You can install SharkPit on Vista, too, so you don't have any drawbacks left ;) @ Spider76: I don't use anti-virus-tools and ccleaner very seldomly, but the only BSOD I had with Vista where when my graphics card died. DikiDino Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Thanks for all the solution. At least now i have a smoother ride which make the experience more enjoying. :)
