Flight to Game Options to Flight ??

I am very new to BS and trying to learn in a logical way, reading reading reading, flying, reading reading reading, flying etc.

I am slowly working my way through the video tutorials both in the game and those provided by the Game Producer (I think that's who created them?).

 

ANYWAY, one of my biggest hurdles at this moment is trying to get my X-52 (w/Rudder Pedals) set up with the most common or important commands set to my flight stick and throttle lever.

I know that once I have TrackIR I will be able to improve these settings, furthermore the more I learn the more likely I am to change some of these settings to refine them for practicality.

 

As such, the only way I know to get into the Game Options to change anything, is to Quit out of whatever flight I am in (game mission or training etc) and back out to the OPTIONS button/page where I can refine/change my keyboard, stick and rudder settings.

 

Now that I have put everyone to sleep by rambling, my question is:

"How can I ? OR Is there a Way ? to go directly from flight (paused) to the Controller Options page without having to back all the way out of the game/flight and then return, having to wait for the mission/tutorial to reload again ??????"

 

Most games (that I am familiar with) permit you to use the Pause and "O" or "Tab" to get to the game options and return without loss of any game time.

Can this also be done in DCS: BS ??

 

Please tell me it is possible !! ... Unless of course it's not possible ... then don't tell me that !! LOL

Unfortunately, other than most games nowadays, the GUI runs on a different exe than the game itself, so this is not possible in anyway AFAIK. :noexpression: Sorry to be such a no person :)

At least I know and can get that thought out'a my head.

 

Okay, one last unrelated question.

This one will sound silly coming from a Flight Sim Guru, but ;

In a helicopter, which way should a chopper pan when pushing the rudders ?

 

i.e. if I push my Left Rudder Pedal, should my chopper turn Left or Right ?

 

I have tried it both ways and find it a bit unnatural compared to a fixed wing aircraft.

This is one of the main draw backs to DCS BS right now along with the ME not having a sat view for placment of objects. alot of us ar hoping thes things are fixed ith the releas of A10c and its updated game engin.

if you push the rudder peddel to the left the choper shuld turn left. Best example is in a hover.

if you are editing your controller software, it can be helpful to run BS in the windowed mode at a smaller resolution than your desktop. You can then tab through the two programs for editing. I run a 1920x1200 destop (and BS full screen), but if I run BS at 12x9, I can still get 60 fps while in the windowed mode. For practicing, make sure the recovery option is enabled as it can save you much time if you need to repeat a lesson (mission).

Great Advice .. Thank You.

I just might try the Windowed Mode .. at least then I can also try the Shkval and Camera on my other monitor.

 

As far as Left Rudder, Left Turn goes, that is the way I have it set and thought it should be, but sometimes it just doesn't feel right .. I guess it is just one more thing to get used to. Besides the pedals are new to me so that in itself is a new experience.

As such I know that I am going to be able to become proficient sooner rather than later. It is all a bit overwhelming at the moment, but I know Practice Makes Perfect, and I just happen to have too much time on my hands.

Give me 6 months and I will know this craft inside and out while in Sim Mode (I mean.. what else is there ?) In the meantime, I have found that Game Mode is useful to learn to understand what each of the systems are and what they do so that I can learn to control the craft later without having also to learn what everything else does.
