neilr9 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Hi, I am getting this strange effect where the edges of clouds appear blocky when looking out of the side windows of the cockpit. Anyone else got it working on with the Radeon 5870? Here are my Specs: Flaming Cliffs 1.12b Windows 7 64bit 8GB RAM Core 2 Duo E8400 Radeon 5870. I tried turning AA on and off and disabling Catalyst AI and it made no difference. Any suggestions?

neilr9 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Tried AA 4X and I still get the problem. Also disabled AI. Still get the problem.
CHola Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Do you have such artifacts in other 3d games, or in Windows desktop? Cheers, CHola
neilr9 Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 No problems at all in other games, or windows desktop.
71st_Mastiff Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Well something is on that the game does'nt support, did you try turning off the high QF check to see if that is checked on if so check off. beewee Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Would it be silly to suggest trying the hig res cloud mod available at lockonfiles.com? It may or may not help... [sIGPIC]http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7378/9thbwbannerbeewee.jpg[/sIGPIC]
neilr9 Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Where do I find the high QF Check option? Is this in Catalyst control centre ? I can't see anything called QF Check.
TheMoose Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 If it only happens on segments of the clouds, could the issue be related to under powering on the video card? Overheating? Sorry can't be a really good help. I'm a Nvidia user. You might want to page Mustang. He knows his stuff around ATI video cards... neilr9 Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 I've checked my AF settings. I don't have the option for High Quality AF. I'm also running with a 700 Watt power supply so I'm pretty sure I can rule out power supply issues. I'm pretty sure this is a driver issue as I'm having problems with one or two other games. I guess I'll have to wait and see if a driver update fixes it. Also interested to know if other 5870 users are getting this problem.
Vekkinho Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Get rid of the Catalyst Control Center and go ATI Tray Tools...much better and less buggy! It free and can be DLed here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
neilr9 Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Ok, roll forward 5 months and I am have installed Flaming Cliffs 2. I am on Catalyst Drivers 10.3. I am still getting the blocky clouds issue. Anyone else with a 5870 seen this? Anyone fixed it?
