Hey guys,

It's been a while since I posted anything here, cause usually I can find some answers by routing through the forums, but I wasn't so lucky this time!

Basically, when I'm flying with my two AI wing-men on the F-15, I would usually assign us all three pylons of fuel if the mission was going to take us far-and-wide, but for some strange reason, and after maybe twenty-five to thirty minutes of flight, wingman three seems to call "Bingo Fuel" and bugs out long before my own fuel reserves are anywhere close to Bingo. Usually wingman two isn't far behind. Sometimes they RTB and sometimes they don't even make it to the home-plate. It doesn't make sense because I assign us all the same fuel in the payload section.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Also, one more quick question -

I'm using Flaming Cliffs 1.12 and I installed ModMan onto my computer (running Vista) to install some new aircraft and textures. It doesn't appear to be working. ModMan recognizes Lock On and the Mods appear to be installing just fine, but when I look for the Mods in Lock On, they're nowhere to be found! Can anyone shed some light on the situation?

Any replies are much appreciated!

Rich.

About the ModMan. Check that you have actually installed the mods. First you add them with the "Add" button and then select the mod and click the "Install" button. A green box after the mod's name indicates that it's installed.

It's quite common to forget clicking the "Install" button.

Yeah, I installed the Mods, the box is green and everything. It's really strange.

The Mods just don't appear in Lock On, even though ModMan is telling me they're installed.

I think in RL, wingman have to expend more fuel to follow their leader. Leaders should fly accordingly, ie. not force the wingman to use AB to catch up etc,

If You are running LO on vista and you've installed it on C: drive in prgrams/files, then OS is preventing any manipulation with files in there.

You gotta make copy on other drive and than you'll be able to apply mods.

As to fuel usage, it ruins any of my missions when using moded plane.

For example, if i use mod of f-16 on mig-29g base and i fill my and wingmans plane with 9 tons of fuel, he still calls bingo fuel after just few moments.

Well, thats mods for you i suppose :)

@Talon

The troubles you're having with your wingmen are normal and everybody has them. The thing is in AI, which flies in full AB at any opportunity and which hasn't been corrected until today in any patch.

Still, with a flight of Mig-29A! I've managed to make ~370km combat radius (~750km range) and still shoot down an An-30 and 2 Migs23 escorts, somewhere at half the way. Needles to say, I flew VERY carefully and watched after every drop of fuel.

The way to do it is to never accelerate in AB, since wingmen need to catchup. Don't let autopilot turn you on waypoints, cuz it'll use AB again. Don't climb too steep, cuz wingmen will go on AB to catch you. Don't shift open/close formations since wingmen will use AB during maneuver...There's a lot more detail that need your attention, but in the end it pays out and you can do some really long patrols with your wingmen.

Cheers, CHola

When taking off in a flight of 3 or 4 planes, never immediately head for waypoint 1. Planes 3 and 4 will burn all their fuel catching up. I usually wait for 2 to form up, then turn 180 degrees from waypoint 1, and then turn heading to waypoint 1. That way, when 3 and 4 take off, they are right beheind me as I cross the runway.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Cheers for all the replies, guys - much appreciated.

Shame about the wingman-fuel issue, guess I'll have to fly long patrols alone.

Another quick question - is it possible to relocate my LOMAC directory so it isn't on the C: drive and I can install all my Mods using ModMan? Can I just drag it across to another directory or would I need to do a complete reinstall of LO and FC onto a different directory?

AI planes do not use external fuel. This is a bug. You can confirm this by comparing the AI's flight time on a looped path with and without external fuel tanks.

In ModMan, you can set the game path manually in the options. Click the button at the upper right corner.

Yep, what CHola and Exorcet said. After takeoff, hang around at low speed near the airbase until all wingnuts have caught up with you before setting off on the mission. It seems OK to make formation changes (eg line abreast to trail etc) when in close formation, but they will use A/B if you do such things in open formation.

To move LO to another location follow.

1.Make new folder on other than c: drive and call any way You like it

2.Go to lockon folder and copy all of its contain

3.Paste it in newly made folder

4.find file lockon.dll and double click it

Gamer should start

Any next time You want to start LO use lockon.exe file

You can make shortcut to lockon.exe on your desktop, just dont forget to call it differently to original LO shortcut

Czarnyolek, thanks for the info - I wasn't sure if I'd mess up my LO installation by moving it across.

And thanks for the other info, guys, much appreciated.

I have had the problem of wingman 2 running out far before i do.

I think there are two reasons:

1) his use of afterburner in order to speed up and keep formation

2) They drop tanks when combat ensues, where as I usually keep mine all the way through.... Cause I hate being low on fuel and having to limit my afterburner use.

Well, then you have the question: if you drop the fuel, it decreases your range and makes you think twice before engaging afterburners. BUT you aircraft will be way more lighter and maneuverable.

If you stay with the tanks, plane gets heavier, but range increases...

It's a hard choice.

YEah it is a hard choice, but it is usually made easier for me by the fact that I cant remember what button is used for drop tanks!

Lol.

But I usually manage to get by ok in a fight with them on....
